The cross slide uses 5 adjustment screws and the compound uses 4 screws to control the linear motion of those coponents and it keeps the action nice an snug so that that there is no vibration or play in the feeds during turning. On older lathes. These screws are typcially damaged or broken over time as they were usually made of unhardened plain steel and the slotted head is easily broken if it is overtightened. A set of 10 will allow you to replace all of the fasteners and have one spare left over to keep in the drawer for future use. South Bend Lathe used an unusual size screw for this application(12-28 thread x 3/4" long with a slotted head and a flat point) so these are virtually impossible to find anywhere now days. We know this because we have been looking for some time) Luckily we have located a limited supply of these new"old stock" fasteners and are making them available to Southbend Lathe owners. The bottom of the V is 1 5/8" when it's closed and the top of the V is just over 2" as pictured. I was told this fits a Heavy Ten/10 but not positive. This chuck does not look like it was ever abused. The thickness of the body of the chuck is approximately 3-1/2” This would make a nice heavy duty chuck for your lathe. The lathe chuck was taken apart and cleaned. The screws appear to be in good condition. They seem to move freely. I do not have a chuck wrench at this time. This item will be sold as-is. This is a good old 16" South Bend Lathe. It is a single lever quick change machine and is in nice shape. Albeit a little dirty. This machine is well tooled and has a smooth running spindle. I'm rearranging the shop and it's just not making the cut, I hate to see it go. It has never let me down and been a real work horse. Includes the following: Large Face Plate, Dog plate, 3 Jaw with both jaw sets, 4 jaw, steady rest, follower rest, aloris style wedge tool post with 5 holders, 2 drill chucks, hand wheel collet closer/nose protector/taper adaptor/spanner wrench, 5C collet set from 1/16" to 1" by 16th's as shown, live center, dead centers, wrenches, taper attachment, collet rack, dogs, micrometer carriage stop, thread dial& misc. The machine is 3 phase and can be run with a VFD or the motor can be changed out ... morefor single phase if needed. Has additional feet for cushion and extra height. There are a few small items that will want attention or need repair. But have not stopped my use of the lathe. The clamp handle for the taper is broken with the piece present. There is a missing clamp bolt for the taper to the ways but the clamp block is present. There is also a short pin broken that restrains the back gear handle to it's 90 deg swing. This has been this way for some time and does not exclude the function of the gears. Back gears are good. Machine is as you see it, as is. Please ask all questions prior to purchase/offer. A friend of mine has a machine shop at his home. Which includes the tools and machines that generally comprise a home machine shop. Although there are an assortment of brand names, he was partial to South Bend Lathes and accessories. He has now decided to reduce the size of his shop and to sell off the extra parts and accessories he has collected over the years and no longer uses.
