It has a factory Atlas reversing gearbox drive. ... moreSo I know it fits an older Atlas with a 5/8” leadscrew. I would imagine if you had a reversing box for a 3/4” leadscrew it would work on that version of Atlas lathe as well. It seems to be all there and working, but I’ve never installed or seen it in operation. There are at least 13 factory Atlas change gear sprockets inside. Plus a bunch of non Atlas gears with the same pitch. So parts alone will be worth at least $200. So that’s where I’m starting the bidding. I just hate to knock it in the head if someone has a need. Craftsman 12” Metal Lathe Quick Change Gear Box Part# 990-290 This is a Quick Change Gear Box and Banjo Bracket from a Craftsman 12” lathe. Model# 101.28940. I have removed the banjo gear bracket from the QC box for shipping purposes but it is easily re-installed. I have listed this gear box“as is for parts” because I am not that familiar with it. This also caused me to lower my auction and buy-it-now prices. It appears to be complete according to the catalog diagram(see picture) I did not notice any missing teeth on the gears. Normally I thoroughly disassemble and clean a part before I sell it. I did not do this for the QC Box because I did not want to risk doing it wrong. Used South Bend 9" metal lathe Model number CL344Z Bed is 3 1/2' CTC about 24" bore is 7/8" All gears are in good shape. The lathe itself has some wear in the ways with some dinges and dents, minor scratching. There is also some wear on the compound from the chuck. This lathe includes 5" 3 jaw chuck, new quick change toolpost with 5 holders, thread dial, forward only drum switch, and quick change gearbox. The backlash is about 1/2 turn in crossfeed and 1/2 turn in compound. The spindle is 1 1/2" 8tpi. It has a 110 volt motor and is on the original fabricated South Bend base cabinet. The plate is marked SEARS ROEBUCK, the bed is marked ATLAS, and the manual that came with lathe is marked CLAUSING. Here is a lot of quick change shafts from this unit. The quick change bundle was apart when I received it. So I put this group together based on the fact they all were found in the same box with gears. The shafts are all 8 3/4 long with the exception of oiler which is shaft length of 5 1/2"not counting nipple) X 5/8" OD. There are two shafts at 1/2" OD and two at 5/8" OD. I verified that it would hold a 150 bar so it is most probably equivalent to a series 200. Mechanical condition is fine but buyer will need to supply 3/4" center bolt and T-nut.
