Unimat DB200 ~1962 cast iron basic lathe/mill excellent with AC induction motor
This auction is for a Unimat DB200 miniature lathe. This is the cast iron model that was produced in the early 1960s. If you are somewhat new to Unimats. It's easy to get confused by the model names. Most of the cast iron versions were named DB200; starting in 1965 the factory switched to zinc-aluminum alloy. These were called"SL" but presumably for name recognition continuity, the U.S. and Canadian importer still called the SL"Model DB200" Later they were called just"SL" or"SL1000" This model is cast iron. This is the basic lathe and milling/drilling setup. The vertical column and adapter which allows drilling and milling is included. The spindle return spring was not furnished on the earlier Unimats. But I have include one here, to make drilling easier(not shown installed) Note the very desirable ... morediamond-pattern scroll ring on the 3-jaw chuck. And handwheels with"wasp-tail" handles. Also this has the early thicker, sand-cast motor bracket with shorter center-to-center distances between pulleys. Later Unimats had die-cast motor brackets that were much thinner and sometimes prone to break) Includes original box. Vertical column and adapter, 3-jaw lathe chuck, tommy pins, drill chuck with key, toolpost, headstock alignment pin, one dead center, steel faceplate(later ones were aluminum) steel lathe dog(later ones were pot metal) hex wrench(not shown) belts. The manuals are available online in PDF form. The motor is the very desireable brushless AC induction motor that runs very quiet compared to brush-type motors that came with most Unimats. This lathe is in good condition. But is used and has various paint chips, surface discoloration, dings, scratches, etc. I have not had the time to clean it, but I did confirm that the bearings still had grease and rotated smoothly.

For your consideration is an Original But MODIFIED Unimat 3-Jaw Chuck for Lathes DB 200- SL 1000: This is an original Unimat 3-Jaw Chuck. It will fit most older Unimat DB 200 and SL 1000 with a 12 mm/1 mm shaft. This item has been modified by cutting the outside step of each jaw. In order to accommodate a larger opening of the chuck without interfering with the base. The cutting was done well. The result is satisfying as you can handle larger pieces. It comes to the price of not catching the smaller pieces as well. The minimum size that this chuck handles is probably about 1/4" While it can accommodate probably about 1" without the jaws touching the bed. This modification allows for larger sizes without using a raiser. But limits the use for the smaller sizes. If the chuck is tightened to full close. Which it will do, the release ... moreis tricky as the grooves cannot easily catch the jaws for release. I used this chuck many times and grumbled at it a few times when I tightened it too far.
