This is a vintage Pratt& Whitney lathe compound. Hartford Conneticut, USA, in good condition. The dovetailed ways have been reconditioned/machined parallel so there is no slop. It has rebuilt bronze lead screw nuts. There is virtually no backlash in the X-axis. There is about.005 backlash in the Y-axis. The X-axis handle turns tight but smooth. The Y-axis handle turns tight but not as smooth as the X. There are tool marks on the cross slide as shown in the pictures. At one time someone drilled some extra holes in the top of the compound as shown in the pictures. Neither of these things affects the function of the compound. VINTAGE ELGIN HARDINGE ATLAS LATHE COMPOUND CROSS SLIDE SPLIT BED METALWORKING
This is a vintage Elgin Tool Works lathe compound in good condition. The dovetailed ways have been reconditioned/machined parallel so there is no slop. There is about.007" backlash in the X-axis. There is about.010" backlash in the Y-axis. Both handles turn smooth and tight. There are tooling marks on the compound as shown in the pics. The base measures 3 5/8" x 6 1/2" It measures 3 1/2 inches tall. This compound comes with a shop made shoe attachment to fit on an Atlas 10" lathe(2 3/4 inch space between the rectangular ways) I used it on my Atlas lathe. Which has some slop in the original compound. Mounted on the Atlas, it turns it into a nice, precision lathe when desired. Of course the screw drive does not function with it. You can see it mounted in one of the pics. This shoe locks down on the rectangular ways ... moreof the Atlas bed. The tailstock and factory compound needs to be moved to the right, on a long bed this is no problem. It does not have any shoe or any mounting hardware for other split bed lathes. Vintage 1940's Delta Milwaukee 12" Lathe Machinist Compound Cross Slide
This compound cross slide and accessories came with a 1940's 12" Delta lathe I bought recently. Everything that is included is shown. The only things that are missing that I can see are the square nuts for the hold down bolts. And the tooling holder. One of the hold down bolt's threads are a little deformed(shown in the pictures) Overall. Everything is pretty clean. There is a small amount of rust, the worst of which is shown in the pictures. I believe this is Logan 10" cross slide and compound rest assembly with chip guard. Item is used and in good working condition. Perhaps needs some cleaning and lubrication. It has some light discolorations on not painted areas. There is no feed nut and gib for cross slide, however there is a feed nut screw and gob screws and nuts; compound rest is complete. Hardinge Metal Lathe Cross Slide Compound Assembly Perhaps some of you will recognize this cross slide. I did not find any markings on it. It was my father's stuff of which I only had a very limited knowledge. It comes as pictured. Scales are well readable. See closed up photos. This is a very heavy item. It weights 23 lb. The footprint size is approximately 8" x 3.5" not counting protruding scales and handles. The slot in an upper slide is little more then 1-3/4" wide in its lower section and 1-3/16" wide on the top. The slots highs is 5/16" Very nice condition: no cracks. Breaks, welds or other repairs. It can probably be adapted to fit a variety of Hardinge style lathes. You might be able to make a custom milling attachment from it as well.

Great condition. Fully dis-assembled cleaned and lubricated. Dovetail ways in good condition as can be seen in pictures. Top quality construction. Note that the end plates that carry the leadscrews are fixed with steadypins. Gibs for dovetails are pinned as well. Hand scraped factory dovetail fitting! Unknown manufacturer. The only identifying mark on any piece is: A11 Though the fasteners are metric the handwheels are calibrated in.001" 3" travel on both axis. Flat base is configures to fit Schaublin/ Levin bevelled top type lathe beds and is adjustable for a bed top width of between 48mm-70mm Height of cross slide above the lathe bed is 1.06" 27mm) So minus that amount from your center height for swing over the cross slide. Turret toolholder will accept 1/2" or slightly larger toolbits. The toolbit height from the top ... moreof the ways to the top of a 1/2" tool in the turret is 3.15" This compound also has great potential for use as a Guilloche' slide rest. Surfaces have a patina but there is no corrosion or pitting of any major surfaces except on the cross slide handle. If you wanted this to look near factory new it could be accomplished easily with steel wool only.

Vintage Elgin tool works compound cross slide good user cataract hardinge lathe
For auction is an old antique Elgin tool works compound cross slide. It is in semi cleaned condition. Everything in functioning and operating smoothly. The length of the lower section is 7 3/4' long. Not including the adjusting flywheel handle. The bottom section measures 5 1/2' long. The width of the bottom and lower section is 3 1/4' wide. The measurement from the bottom of the compound slide( the section that seats the bed of the lathe) to the bottom of the T slot for the tool post is 2 1/4' There is signs of user wear, and there is some spots showing user abuse. see pictures 10& 11) there is some rust and corrosion, and there is some pitting in a few areas. This is marked HR Made in U.S.A. and is a nice compound or tripple cross slide I think. With a micro adjuster on it too. Very good conditon with some tarnish on the brass, and nothing more- no mounting bolt to mount to the lathe or anything- just what you see in the picture. It looks nice and seems to be in great condition with little use, and the finish looks very nice and bright. I didn't realize this earlier, it has"edjar sonez" or something like that engraved on the bottom, I will include a better picture of that later. It's engraved on the bottom where it goes against the lathe, you can't see it when it's in use. I will only ship within the USA. Atlas Craftsman metal wood lathe basic cross slide compound assembly
This listing is for a basic cross-feed/compound assembly from an Atlas/Craftsman lathe. This unit would have come with the most basic 9" version of these lathes(such as a wood lathe) for entry level metal cutting. It does not use a hand-wheel to move the assembly side to side across the bed. You have to loosen the lock bolts and manually position it. COMPOUND CROSS SLIDE ATLAS CRAFTSMAN LATHE MILLING SHAPER ATTACHMENT GLOBE TABLE
Lathe or? compound cross slide in pretty good condition. This came in a box of parts I got with an Atlas shaper and vertical mill I bought last year. I don't know what it originally was off of and if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. My guess is it was going to be machined to be used on the Atlas lathe that was at the same sale but could also have been slated for use on the shaper or mill. In overall good condition with the normal wear to be expected of a used machine part. The gibs are good as are the ways with not a lot of wear on either set. This is not quite ready to go as it will need a way to mount to your particular machine and application. But if you have read this far the gears are probably already turning! This is a very well designed and machined part and I'm sure you will be very pleased with your purchase. ... moreI think with a little creative machining of a mount this would make an excellent milling attachment for a small lathe. The addition of the second slide would be especially useful. I'm sure this will be of great use to whomever the winning bidder is. Following are the rough measurements and travel of the piece. The travel on both of the slides is a little over 4" total. The upper slide swivels a little over 50 degrees in each direction. My thought is if it was off of a lathe it should swivel a full 360 degrees or close. It weights a little over 16 lbs. The upper slide is about 10-1/2" long overall and 3-1/4" wide. The lower slide is about 13" long overall by 3-5/8" wide. The last picture shows it sitting on my Atlas 7C shaper which may give you a better idea of the overall size of the slide. It shows a lot of wear and usage and pitting, but it turns reasonably smooth and tight in both directions with some backlash It measures 2 3/8" high from the base to the top flat of the compound. This is hard to find smaller compound. This will fit on all Split deep Deep-V Hardinge but it is made for the 37 0r 47 lathes it will fit the 59 but sits a inch to low could be used on 59 for holding Dremel tools or grinders. This will not fit Dove tail design. Compound Slide for Hardinge-type 2nd Operation Lathes and Speed Lathes and PRECISION HARDINGE CATARACT BENCH TOP LATHE all with split bed deep-V DESIGN Bottom tool cutter sits about 3 3/8" inch above your bed. If you have a old Cataract this compound is much nicer then ones they came with it is heaver and stronger you will cut like a modern lathe with this compound.
