It's the older transformer type so it's not rated in miles of fence. The instant arc type need that designation because the fence itself acts like a capacitor and absorbs that instantaneous arc and the longer the fence the less effective they become. The old transformer type like this are far less susceptible to this phenomenon. Also these older types will actually burn off weeds and are less susceptible to lightning damage. The nameplate says Coast to Coast but I'm pretty sure Holdem made it and that's the only type I will ever use and I've been doing cattle for over a half century. The plug in chopper on the bottom is brand new and they usually last about 5 to 10 years. They ... morewere getting tough to find for awhile but now with internet that isn't such a problem. The two hot terminals are high power and low power and were principally designed for use where the high was for the fence and the low was for the cow trainers in the barn to encourage the cattle to back up a little in their stanchions to make their deposit in the gutter and not where they would lay down in it. It's slow make and break type and one of the lights indicates that the fencer is on and working and the other indicates if the fence is shorted out by the reed canary in the north swamp. This is a Super Energizer model 600-1. Manufactured by Southern States in Richmond Virginia USA. It's a Low Impedance model rated for 50 miles of fencing. Shocks through wet weeds and brush. Farm Products Group Hol-Dem model 57 electric fencer. Electric fence controller? Whatever. 12" wide. 8" tall, 6" deep. Very good physical condition. As far as I can tell. This unit is unused. I don't live on a farm or have a fence to electrify. But I do have a multimeter. When I turned on the Hol-Dem, the fence signal LED lit up, and the power signal LED remained dark. I tested the voltage across the terminals and it was a steady 448VAC. The I turned the unit off and back on again. And after that things went haywire. The fence signal LED went out, and the power signal LED started to flash. The voltage reading began to fluctuate. I also noticed a bit of a burning smell. I'm certainly not an expert on electric fencers. But my guess is that the capacitor and/or the coil are dried out from age. Cool old USA made HOL DEM Model 57 electric fence charger. I plugged it in and after about 15 seconds the red lights on front cycle on and off. I connected a multimeter to the posts on them bottom and when the lights cycle on I was getting a voltage spike from the posts(too quick to get an exact reading.
