Bee Keeping:Pfund Honey Grader Vintage Agricultural Instruments Steampunk
Rescued from the site of an old Bee Farm in Highland Ca. It was in a shed that has not been opened in over 40 years. Items in the shed are dusty, and dated late 1800's to mid 1950's. I did not deep clean any of the rescues; I dusted off with a clean damp rag and leave restorations to the experts. This is a vintage Honey Grader. It works. Plug is in decent condition. I am not a bee farmer. The information I am offering is based on visual matches acquired from an internet search. I hope I can answer all of your questions Here is some information I gathered off the net re: this scale: Honey quality was first judged with the very old school Pfund Color Grader Honey quality was assessed by color. The lighter the honey. The higher the price. Every honey sample is assigned a value from around 5 to around 90. With 5 being very light(like ... morealfalfa honey) and 90 being very dark(like buckwheat or sunflower) For the lighter honeys you usually are paid a premium. The USDA classifies honey into seven categories of color. These are named as follows: Water white Extra white White Extra light amber Light amber Amber Dark Amber"Of course. There is much more to US-honey grading than color. Vintage A I Root Company Bee Keepers Smoker
Awesome Piece of Beekeepers history! This vintage smoker is all there: it was found hanging in a beekeeper's shed. The owner probably hung it there in the early 1900's after use and expected to use it again! The twine he used is still attached and the contents are still within. The leather is all there. Although it has separated from the back piece. The spring inside is also still attached to the back. It is an old piece which has one dent in the side where it was obviously bumped on something hard and. Of course lots of dust. The piece of wood that makes up the back is labeled A I Root Company, Medina, Ohio Bee Keeper Supplies.
