Wood front and back with leather? bellows stapled onto the wood with a metal strip around the bellows. Galvanized can/spout piece with the spout/lid being removeable. Antique Cowans Honey Extractor No. 17 - A.I. Root Co.
Up for auction is my Grandfather's A.I. Root Company 2 comb honey extractor. It is a Cowan's Rapid Extractor No. 17 manufactured in Medina. Ohio USA and dates to the 1920's or earlier. He passed away in 1949 and this came out with his bee's and bee keeping equipment on a flat car in the early1920's from Wisconson to Southern Calif. It was used in his Honey business which was sold to Miller Honey in the 1950's by my Grandmother. The unit is all original and still works. It is galvanized metal with 2 handles to carry and measures 24" wide by 31-1/2" high to tub top or 32" to top of gear housing. It has been in storage for years. Please e-mail any questions. Auction is for an antique wooden packag ing crate. A I Root. Medina" hand written on top lid(photos1,2,3) A bit faint and faded but its there along with some other lettering stamped on and partial orange paper label. Originally lid was nailed on. Now it sits loose on top-not hinged or anything. Crate measures 27" x 12 1/2" x 11" Piece of wood on one side is gone/split away, maybe happened when lid was taken off. Antique Novice's Honey Extractor Cetrifuge A I Root Co, Medina, OH Primitive Bee
This vintage honey extraction barrel is in as found condition. This came from a great pre civil war farm. This is pre 1940s the owner said he bought this in the 1940s used. This honey extraction would have probably costed about $200.00- 250.00 brand new a long time ago. They still make these today and use these. You could probably make your own cap for the bottom spout. You could put a plastic cap or metal. Whatever your mind desires. I was told that this was in working condition from the owner. He was a bee farmer and used to use this a lot. I could not seem to get it to work right. I should have taken a lesson. Thank you!

This listing features a 1928 Root Quality Bee Supplies catalog. It is from A.I. Root Company of Medina Ohio. The catalog has 64 illustrated pages. The catalog is over all excellent in condition. But does have the beginnings of cover detachment at the bottoms and there is one page that has a bottom edge tear as shown in my 4th photo. Nice catalog! Antique A. I. ROOT CO. Medina, OH, Wall Mount Beekeeping Hand Section Press-WOW!
This is an apparently quite rare- turn of the century to 1920- Wall Mountable. Beekeeping Tool labeled a"Hand Section Press" made in the U.S.A. and marketed by the A. I. Root Company of Medina, Ohio- Home of the Honey Bees" established in 1869 by Amos Root and still in business today. The original label- in great condition reads: For, convenience mount the press on the wall as shown in the illustration. Form the sections and place them in the press with the dovetail corner up and out. Raise the lever and press dovetail together. After extensive research. I have found nothing like this press anywhere. It appears to be a small scale version of many of the large hand-made honey presses you can find online. I found a very close match on two other small, antique wood tools that were labeled with the same label-print, lettering and ... morestyle-as this label is. One was from 1910 and the other circa 1920. The label on this press has no date but it appears to be from that era. The best guess for this antique press is circa 1910-1920. This antique"Hand Section Press" was used for small scale/home honey pressing. It appears to have been mounted, at some point, as the mounting holes have a few bits of old sawdust and a few nail nicks in them. It also looks like this press itself was never actually used. There are no signs of moisture or stickiness. The wood appears new and dry. For the most part, this antique press looks to be in near"new" antique condition. The metal side bracket and the nail that holds the bracket in place show some slight rust forming. There are also a couple of dark spots on the wooden mallet-style handle, possibly from original handling. Please see all photos and read the above condition report for the best description of this interesting antique honey-making tool. It's been in a glass display case of old tools, for at least the past 40 years, away from sunlight and handling. It was photographed here in the condition it was discovered.
