This is a FANTASTIC Rotary head fly tying vise very early and no longer made. The vise comes with complete with a Thompson Hook/Hackle gage and a bobbin rest the total weight of the vise is 4.5 pounds it has adjustable jaw strength and a rotary lock to lock the head in place. I have used this vise for years with great success now the old eye sight is getting worse and I'm not tying any longer. The vise has a rotary knob and a thumb spindle for spinning the fly quickly. Herter's No. 9 Fly Tying Vise Manufactured by Thompson This was my first fly tying vise when I was a young man. Fantastic shape for its age. Dates back to the late 1960's and early 70's. I have several other vises now but have kept this one. You likely won't find one of these in this kind of condition. I believe that this may be a Thompson"A" vise built for Herter's. The name"Thompson" is on the cam lock lever. Everything functions perfectly. It is still a very useful vise for fly tying, jewelry making, or other tasks requiring the firm hold of small objects. Vise has small chip in jaws but holds hooks firmly when inserted correctly, i tied a few size 6 wooly buggers to test and jaws hold a hook like a regal vise should. This auction is for one very vintage Fly Tyer's free standing vise plus a vintage leather pouch with 6 lambs wool sections for holding tied flys. The pouch measures 6-1/2" X 3-1/2" X 1" thick. This will fit in a shirt pocket, condition is very good, has two snaps working well. The fly tying vise is solid steel, measures 7" tall, base measures 3" X 1-1/2" this weighs 3/4 pound. The paint used to be yellow and green, most has worn off, as you can see the fly in the grip, the vise works well. Now the story.We purchased a few fishing items from the otiginal owners daughter, she is over 70 and told us this was her fathers first fly tying vise, she had pictures of him fly fishing in the 1930's. Developed by George Le onard Herter in 1 952 as an alternative to fly tying vises that were of inferior quality. Used by him to devel op dozens of patterns including the black nose dace. Wrongly attributed to Art Flick. Used by Jacques Le onard Herter to ti e award winning patterns that ca ught fish. And did not simply decorate your hat. If you reco g nize this. Vintage Benchtop 3 1/2 Inch Swivel Base Vise Anvil Top Pipe Jaws
Vintage older cast iron swivel base vise. 3 7/16 wide jaws. Opens 3 inches, removable pipe jaws, anvil and replaceable clamping surfaces. See photos. Nice clean unit which functions well. I find several numbers but no brand name on the unit. See photos for markings. 10 1/4 inches over length when closed and approx 13 1/4 inches when open. I listed the jaw width at 3 1/2 inches but they measure closer to 3 7/16 inches. Nice small swivel garage vise with pipe jaws included. Shipping is a flat rate of $10.70 to any of the USA States. Vintage American Scale Co. Vise, Model No. 20
This is an American Scale Co. model No. 20 vise/ anvil. It was manufactured in Kansas City. MO around 1900, according to what information I could find. Apparently these are not in abundance. The"snout" in the moveable jaw has a through hole that was used. With a mandrel for drilling through, making this vise a drill press, of sorts. The bed of the vise has a rectangular hole that holds a small tool. Which looks like it has never been used. The beveled edge on it is perfect. For that matter, none of the working surfaces of this vise have any real dings, etc. Here's a link to a forum with some discussion of this vise. This would be a nice addition to anyones' workshop. Two Small Vintage Mechanic Machinist Hobby Vises Two Small Vintage Vises Machinist- Hobbyist This auction is for 2 Small Vintage Vices. They measure 5" by 4" and have 1 3/4" jaws. These are solidly made vises. They have 2 steel guide bars which makes for a nice precision fit on the jaws. The red one on the left in the picture below closes smoothly but binds up a little when opening. The orange one on the right opens and closes nice. They are both in very good working condition. The bottom handle on the orange one has a slight bend. There are no markings on the red one and the orange one has some numbers as shown. There is a small casting flaw on top of the jaw on the red vise as shown. These would be a nice set of vises for the hobbyist or for the collector. See additional pictures below. Vintage spring loaded clamping woodworking vise/Very unusual and different-COOL
This is a pretty cool and very unusual vise. It's one that I have not seen before. I asked a few of my tool collecting buddies and they had never seen one like it either. It apears to be a fairly portable vise. Weighs about 6 pounds and easily attaches to a 2 inch fence cross board. You pull the free end out as far as needed and when tightening it springs and releases with one extra turn without adding more clamping power to the piece being held. There are no markings except the 12/26/22 patent date and the numbers 55 and 56 cast in each jaw. The jaws measure 5 1/2 by 1 5/8 inches. It opens 3 inches wide. The jaws have wood faces.
