This auction is for a used but in good condition Stanley no. 992A machinist/ drill press vise. not including handle the body measures 5 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" Jaws are 2 1/2" wide about 1 1/2" deep. Jaws open to 2 3/8" and do close tight. There are original 1/8" thick plates screwed to each jaw that I assume if removed would give you an additional 1/4" opening. besides the expected dings the vise is in good condition. 3" Drill Press Machine Machinist's Vise Says "H.L." Maybe HL Leonard?
Up for auction is this nice drill press or machinist's vice(not sure which one it is) The jaws are 3" wide by 1" tall. The jaws can be clamped completely shut and can open up to a gap of just under 3" The elliptical mounting bosses measure. 1/2" wide by about 2-5/8" long. There are four of them. The base measures 6-3/4 from front to back and is about 5-3/4" wide. I don't know whether you'd call this cast or forged. I think it's cast iron because the bottom side looks very dimply and you can see the machining marks where the base was cut to square. Either way it's definitely not that Chinese powdered pot metal crap. In the pic with the screwdriver tip is points to where"H.L" is stamped on the bottom. A retired machinist here says he can't think of who that would stand for other ... morethan H.L. Leonard which was also a manufacturer of fly tying vises and other equipment. You'll have to verify that for yourself though. It does seem like a very good quality tool. It's very heavy. No reserve so bid to win! I found this in a garage that's been closed for about 25 years. That's about all I know about it. Please check out all of my other cool vintage items. This garage had thousands and thousands of auto parts in it. For sale is a Clausing variable speed drill press. When i bought it last year. I seen it work, however since it is 3 phase, i have not hooked it up to my phase converter as i'm not sure which wires go where. I have a phase converter if you want to hook it up and see it work before you take it- so long as you know what you are doing. This drill press is extremely heavy. We can slide it into the bed of a pickup by resting one end of the table onto the tailgae, then removing one leg& sliding it in, then remove the other leg. Original Drill Press Vise. Works smooth, very tight, no backlash, clean jaws. Missing original handle. A few drill strikes as shown. Base has been repaired. Repair is solid, could use a little cleanup and paint tho. I have seen other bases that have had the ears cut off and new mount holes drilled inboard of the original slots. Up for auction is a pair of vintage Atlas vise jaws including a of shop-made movable jaw. These fit the Atlas/Craftsman cross slide x/y table used on drill presses. The table top from that is also used as a boring table on Atlas/Craftsman lathes. So these can be used to hold work for boring on the table. Note that the Atlas/Craftsman cross slide x/y table or boring table is NOT INCLUDED! The block and bolts have good threads. The original nuts that clamp in the t-slots are there. There are some minor dings. Paint chips and spots of rust, but overall they are in very good shape. There are no cracks or repairs. The vise includes a shop-made movable jaw.
