I KNOW THERE'S A LOT TO READ HERE BUT IT WOULD BE IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO DO SO. This old vise is really nice. The action is as slick as any I've ever felt. It's just absolutely gorgeous all over, inside and out. Let me tell you a little about the vise in general and then what I know about this particular unit. The patented date comes up via searching as August 16. 1938. It was issued to the Reed Manufacturing Company in Eerie PA. The patent was applied for on January 14, 1936. Reed was the manufacturer and Craftsman sold it under their name. Craftsman has rebranded the vises they sell for as long as they've been selling vises, they are not a manufacturer but a reseller. The model is No. 5184 and the patent is No. 2127008. In the last photo I've posted a scan of the original Patent approval so you can see all of this ... moreinformation yourself. Specs on the vise are as follows; Craftsman(Reed) No 5184 Bench Mounted Vise Pat. No. 2127008 3" Wide Jaws Opens to 5 1/2" 2 1/2" Throat Depth 12" Long end to end. When closed 7 1/2" Tall overall Weight is 29 Pounds Now. About this particular vise up for auction here; When I got it the tool was a real mess. Spider nests, dust balls, dirt. just scuz everywhere. It wasn't pretty to say the least. I took it home and gave it a bath to see what I was working with. Then I completely disassembled every part and cleaned each one in great detail. The exposed metal parts were cleaned using electrolysis. Electrical current flowing through a neutral/base liquid solution. Everything was scrubbed down using warm soapy water and then dried with air. At this point I was able to give it a good inspection and I liked what I found. What I saw was no damage anywhere and in excellent shape. Yes. There is some light surface marks here and there from use but structurally it's 100% sound. The jaws are just in terrific condition, they look as if they've only seen light use. Sometimes I paint these, if they're in really bad shape but I just lo

Up for bid is a nice vintage Wilton Swivel Bullet vise#350. The vise is in original condition and works beautifully. The date of manufacture is 8/76 as shown on the slide. The paint is original. The vise was purchased new by a wholesale hardware company and I purchased it from them in a liquidation sale in 1981 and it has been on my bench since then. The lettering on the side of the vise reads"Made in USA. Schiller Park, ILL 60178" Please note that the original decal is in place and intact. The vise is in excellent working condition and has the normal amount of nicks, scratches, etc. The teeth are in very good condition. This vise looks like it had been cleaned and painted.I hate paint, it covers the scars of a useful life)The handle for the jaw screw is missing as is the swivel handle. The screw turns smoothly as does the swivel screw. It's a beast at 57 lbs and has seen it's share of work. So, without the handles it is being sold as not working or in need of repair. This vise was built before I was born and will be working long after i'm gone. There it is, you can spend hundreds on a new one, or get a working piece of American history for the price of scrap!

This is a vintage RUGDL bench vise. It is Model#12. All cast iron. Something actually made in the USA. This vise has 3" jaws and opens to 3 1/2" It has a 3 hole mounting base with the swivel option. Also has an anvil horn and a flat plate on the back of the vise. Looks like it was repainted black at some point. Some cuts on the top of the jaws. But overall condition is very good. WILTON Machinist Bullet Vise Swivel Base 3" Jaws 5-3/4" Opening 9300 8300N
Good used condition. I partially disassembled the vise to clean. Lubricate and inspect it. The inside of the vise was very clean and lubed when I first took it apart as shown in the second photo. The vise is completely reassembled and lubricated. The top of the vise has tool marks from normal use on the anvil and on the outside of the jaws. The jaws, screws and all moving parts are in very good condition. Much of the paint is worn off from normal use. The swivel base rotates continuously without any stops. There are two hold down clamps on the swivel base and 3 mounting holes. The vise weighs 25-3/4 lbs net weight. This is a very heavy duty vise that should virtually last forever. No owners markings. Parker Vise # 278 Swivel Jaw and Swivel Base!!! 4" jaw width
This Parker is almost 100 years old. There is an almost identical image of a Parker 277 in a 1912 catalog. So I assume the 278 is from approximately the same period. The 278 is pretty rare. I haven't seen another one. Unfortunately, this one has had a break in the back of the slide, and this is clearly visible in the pictures. I did not cause the break. For all I know, it has been there for 80 years. This is another vise that I absolutely hate to sell, but I need to come up with some money in a hurrry and I am running out of options. The pivot jaw feature is rare as well, especially on a vise with a 4" jaw. I have nothing to go by for comparison, but the pivot mechanism on the rear jaw seems very stiff. I put a lot of work into loosening it, but it does not turn easily by hand. It may be that this is how it is always supposed to ... morework. If you put an odd shaped item on one side of the jaws and start clamping, the rear jaw will pivot to match the shape. The jaws were used extensively and are worn very smooth. Please check the pictures for this also. The original scoring on the jaws appears to have been a very subtle crosshatching. It may have provided some grip. Parker Vise # 974 Swivel Base 4" jaw width
This is quite simply the single nicest Parker Vise of any size that I have found in years of searching. I have not cleaned. Restored, lubricated, or altered anything about this vise from the day I found it. This vise has over 95% original paint. I am assuming that the navy blus paint and white lettering are original. I see no signs of this having been repainted at any time. The mechanicals seem perfect. The jaws show very little use. Frankly, I hate to sell this, but I am in an absolute jam and so I am hoping that something good can come from this. I can provide additional pictures if desired. The only thing that could be considered even a slight fault on this vise is that the handle does not slide freely from side to side. But I could clean and lubricate it if that matered to a buyer. It sat in a dusty cellar for many years. Fortunately ... morethe room was extremely dry, but it was not oily or moist, which is why this vise is in such fine condition now. The handle is straight.
