Antique Garvin No. 13 Machinist Milling Vise 5" Drill Press Or Milling Machine
This is an old Garvin milling vise. All of the Garvin stuff is getting pretty hard to find since they didn't produce a lot to begin with. This one was probably built right around 1900 or so. It's in pretty decent shape for it's age. It operated very smoothly as it should. It has 5" jaws and it comes with it's original handle. It measures 12" X 9" on the base. It has a couple of stray drill marks on the inside. The replaceable jaws are slotted. And it appears that they were milled that way to perform a specific production task. these jaws are replaceable, and any competent machinist could fab up a new pair pretty easily if he wanted to. This is a really nice well built piece of history, that could serve well for another 100 years. Vintage Miniature Work Bench w/ Drill Press Vise Pulleys For Small Steam Engine
There are many images so be sure to scroll down to view them of this most unusual item being a small miniature working work bench that I think would have been run by a small steam engine. On it is a vise and a drill press and two pulleys under it. It has a cast iron stand and a wooden table top. The drill press has a logo on both sides and I am showing a close up view of it but I am not familiar with it looks like either a CW or CM or WC or MC- perhaps a Western Chief. The drill press itself is 6 1/2" tall and is moveable from side to center to other side and I am showing images of that. From ground to top of drill press is 9" The drill press has a counter weight on back of handle. The stand is cast iron and I do not see any cracks or chips in the casting and the feet are good and there is one standard thread nut missing on the ... morestand. The vise is 3 1/4" long and you turn it and the back part moves and front part does not move then you push to make it go back together. That is how it is made. Under the table are two pulleys the largest being 2 3/4" and it looks like it is fixed to attach to a small steam engine which would turn the pulleys and make the drill press work. Wood table is 4 3/4" x 8" and is 4" off ground and there are dark burnt marks on the table. Weight unpacked is 4 pounds. It is a very nice vintage tool. When I purchased it they called it a salesman sample drill press perhaps that is what it is but I really think it has to do with the small steam engines. Buyer to pay s/h calculated insured in USA. A very clean Craftsman angle vise that appears to have had very little. If any, use. This belonged to my father and has been in storage for many years. The vise is in excellent condition with no pitting. Just some light surface corrosion that should clean up very nicely.
