Raising the lever allows you to slide the moving jaw close to the object to drill/mill. Then the lever is lowered into one of the many grooves cut into the"screw" to lock the screw in place and the knob is then turned normally to further tighten the moving jaw to secure the object(see pic 4) It takes a tenth of the time to do it as to describe it! It is 6 3/8" deep. The vise opens to 6 3/8" It has a plate that straddles the two bottom rods so work won't fall through. The red knob on the tension lever has a small hole in the top of it. When tension is applied to the material in the vise, it holds the work firm for drilling. It won't tighten down like a vise with a screw tightener. There is one battle scar on it when somebody's drill bit went a tad to far. You can see this in the very last photo of the gallery. The fact that a vise this age has only one hole in it is pretty much amazing in my book. This vise came from Craftsman's Crown Logo era which screams out the 1970's to me. The decal was trashed along with the paint so it came off too. The word Craftsman is stamped into the side however. Although in terrific physical condition ... morethis vise was dirty and the paint was wasted from decades of being in a shop environment. It needed a complete makeover with nothing spared. That's what it received too. I stripped it down. Chased all the threads, both female and male, with taps& dies. I left most of it bare because of the nature of the work these kinds of vises see however the base was sprayed with satin black enamel which was baked on and should hold up decently well. All of the machined surfaces were given extra attention to make sure they're precisely smooth and perfectly fitting. The jaws are in outstanding condition showing only very light signs of use. All of this shows when you go to use this vise, you'll never regret having it I promise. I sincerely hope you enjoy using this beautiful vise. Vintage Palmgren 000 Angle Drill Press Vise, Excellent Condition
Up for sale is a completely refurbished Palmgren No.000 2 1/2" angle drill press vise in very good condition. It does have some signs of use but it still functions like new with no slop. It needed a cleaning so it was taken apart. Carefully masked off and repainted. All of the metal parts were polished and cleaned of grime so it operated smoothly. The lead screw will need some lube but i will leave that up to the buyer. I don't want to get anything on the paint during shipping. The jaws measure 2.5" across and have a max opening of 2.5" The stationary jaw has a cross vee notch to hold your work piece easier and the moving jaw is smooth. There is one noticeable"shame scar" from a drill bit(approx 1/8" deep) and some other nicks on the side. I've taken pictures of them so you can see them clearly. The vise ... morehas aluminum brackets on the side that allow you to angle your work piece to just about any angle for drilling or milling. It operates smoothly and a simple 9/16" wrench is all it takes to get it moving. The vise weighs 9 pounds.
