You can clearly see in the photos that this vise turned out terrific. It's not all appearances either. When you operate this vise you can't help but have the word, Nice. pop into your head. Vintage Wilton Cadet 9140 Swivel Bullet Bench Vise 4" Jaws 1956 machinist
Antique Wilton Cadet model 9140 bullet vise. The manufacture date on the drift key is 11-30-56. The vise jaws are 4" wide and open to approximately 5 1/2" The vise is in good operational condition. But at one time someone must have beat on something so hard that it broke off part of the base under the jaw on the fixed side and roughed up the top behind the jaw(see photos) When I got it the fixed jaw was missing. I made a replacement jaw out of mild steel and it works fine. I had to re-tap the screw threads so the screws are different sizes on the 2 jaws. The missing part of the jaw base does not affect clamping strength. It would only be a factor if you wanted to clamp a part in it and beat it with a sledge hammer. The screw is in good shape and turns very smoothly. This would be great candidate for restoration or it will function ... moregreat for years to come just as it is. The fixed jaw base could be built back up with weld or simply left alone. Overall a very good vise and would be beautiful restored. Note: Shipping is to lower 48 states only. The base plate and screw may be dissasembled so that it will fit into a flat rate box.

This is a very nice vintage Craftsman vise that I don't believe was used much at all. The paint was quite old so I did strip it down and put a fresh finish on it. Wilton 1645 Mechanics Bench Vise with Swivel Base, Excellent Condition!!!
Up for sale is an extremely clean Wilton 1645 Mechanics vise that has been cleaned up to better then new and ready to use. The vise was in sad shape when found. chipped paint, rust, missing decal and lockdowns) but it has all been fixed to look like new. The vise has been pulled apart and cleaned, painted and all metal parts were polished. The anvil area was lightly resurfaced and everything was lubed. It will easily operate with one finger now. The swivel base lockdowns were missing so i made a new set from an original i had laying around. They aren't perfect but look pretty close to an original. I found another used factory decal and reapplied it to the vise. The rubber"finger-savers" are original to the vise. This 1645 is an earlier model that was overbuilt and just about as stout as a bullet style Wilton. It has a much heavier ... moreduty swivel base that can be swapped out to fit a bullet vise. The newer mechanic vise bases are more square and won't fit physically/cosmetically. The slide is a single casting and not an inserted piece of steel channel held in a casting jig. The jaw inserts are 1/2" thick and have all of its teeth remaining. They show little to no wear. The steel pipe inserts are present and in excellent shape. It does have paint peeling I assume is original paint, don't know what year it is has grease on it has been used. Still works you can move in and out like the vise should. Columbian D44 Bench Vise, Refurbished Condition, Made in USA
Up for bid is a very clean Columbian D44 bench vise. It was refurbished a while ago but needed some other work before it could be sold as a complete vise. Everything was stripped off and painted or polished to look better then when it was made new. The anvil area was resurfaced and has plenty of life left in it. When i got the vise. It was missing the bolt that holds the swivel base to the main casting and the center bushing for that bolt. The bolt was replaced and i turned out a new bushing on a lathe so it works as good as new. The vise has 4" jaws with a max opening of 6" The throat depth is 2 3/4" and weighs approx 21lbs.

I was floored when I unwrapped the blanket holding this vise. I don't know how long it sat under a work bench in this garage I was cleaning out but the situation obviously kept it in like-new condition. I had to give it a mild cleanup and I did remove old lube and reapply some synthetic blue grease on all the friction surfaces. I'm going to say something that sounds like hot air but I'll say it any way. I've had a lot of vises pass through my shop but I think this is the absolute nicest one I've seen yet. It's in pristine condition and it operates beyond smooth, it feels very precise and very fluid. Just look at the jaws, both the main jaws and the pipe jaws, they look like they did the day they were cut. Every edge, every raised cast letter, looks as sharp and crisp as the day it rolled out of the foundry in Cleveland. ... moreThis is a magnificent bench vise that absolutely anybody would be proud to have bolted to their work area. Littlestown 4.25" Jaws No. 400 Swivel Mount Bench Vise 24 Lbs Made in USA Vice
This vise was manufactured by Littlestown but sorry to say I have no idea when. I imagine it's fairly old. It cleaned up decently and will be a good working tool for somebody. It's actually bigger than you think. Do not expect a tiny vise even though other vises of this style are a notch or two down in size. This is not a small one. It looks decent and works perfectly fine, there are no issues with the mechanics on it. However, not all is perfect in Littlestown. If you look at the photos you can see a chunk of iron fell out underneath the dynamic(Front. jaw. This happens when somebody strikes downward with either too large a hammer or too much force. It's not uncommon to see this damage on vises. It could have easily happened decades ago. It genuinely has no bearing on the vise's performance, most of the jaw shelf is still ... morepresent and the jaw remains perfectly solid in place. Try not to smash it with your 5 pound sledge though. I did do a thorough cleaning on this with some fresh. Baked on enamel. The color is a deep, metallic green and it looks nice with a touch of sparkle. It's ready to go to work for you and I see no reason it won't last many, many years. Pot metal junk) Even the once mighty Wilton has ruined their reputation with Chinese sourced pot metal vises sold at Lowes. Its NOT a Wilton- at least not the ones you remember. I have pics of"new" Wiltons broken in half after a few uses. Even their pro line is nowhere ... moreclose to ones made in the 70's back. A quick google search will uncover DOZENS of"new" Wilton bullet vises with mounting feet broken off. The quality of the metal isn't there any more. As a mechanic my world revolves around impact wrenches and bench vises- This is a beautiful little vise. Jaws are 3" opens to 5" and it has both a swivel base and anvil back. It was found in a workshop that had been closed since the late 70's. It looks like it never saw much use. Add a new coat of paint or put it to work as is. I haven't cleaned or painted the vise- sweat equity" keeps the prices low. The jaws are nice and tight and in excellent shape. Almost perfect faces on each with no serious scars or damage. This would be a great vise for the bench downstairs or out in the garage. HUGE vises are great too. But NOT FOR EVERY JOB. Large vises 5" jaws and larger are actually cumbersome to use on small items. NOTE.Im pretty leniant with grading on used vises. Folks. Antique Unbranded "Pat.Apr.1918 No.2" Bench Vise w/Hand Turn Lathe vg condition
Antique. Patent dated Apr. 19 18, unbranded No. 2 Bench Vise with hand-turn lathe feature in very good condition with medium wear and minor surface corrosion. The handle on the vise end appears as if it may have been replaced at some point in time. The handle on the lathe end is all metal. The Vise measures 4"H(when mounted) x 12"L x 2"D and weighs six(6) pounds eight(8) ounces. The vise opens to 3/4" Which is rather small for its size and may have been a Jewelers or Blacksmithing Vise. I can't say for sure, I've never seen one like this. This is a Beautiful Vintage Desmond Stephan Simplex S wivel Bench Vise. It's a model# 31S- Steel Slide- with 3 1/4" Jaws. The Vise was a Wood Craftsman's Shop(Barn) Find in Original Condition. Made in the U S A/ The Desmond Stephan MFG CO/ Urbana Ohio. The company is still in business but sold off it's vise business back in 1964. The Model 31 S(S for Swivel Base) was first produced in 1929 with claims of being a better vise due to the strength of it's Solid Steel Slide. The slide was cast of solid steel and then milled out for the vise screw. The remaining gray color on the vise indicates it is the Professional Machinist Model. The home model was painted red. Measures 12" Long(closed) x 7 3/4" Wide(at it's widest point of the base) x 6 3/4" High. W eighs 24 lbs. All I had to do to this one was clean off a little rust and polish the handles. Then squirt it with some fresh paint! As you can see in the pictures the jaws only have some minor scratches, otherwise they look unused. This is a rare find. The vise is a quality vintage MADE IN AMERICA gem. It was manufactured by the Desmond Stephan Mfg. Co. of Urbana, Ohio. They are still in business today but have long since discontinued the manufacturing of vises. I would guess this vise to date somewhere between the 1940's and 1964, when Desmond Stephan stopped making vises. It has been lubricated and it's ready to be put to work.
