Up for consideration I have a level that was bought by my father and used once. Since his passing. We are ridding of items that we arent going to use. This level has a nice black hard case. Case is very sturdy and protects level well for transport. There is a silver aluminum tripod that is fully adjustable. There is a crank that brings level up from middle and legs have 2 adjustments that make the overall unit nice and tall. There are 2 screw fasteners that hold level tight so it cant move. Level head screws to the tripod. Level head is also made of metal and has its own bubble display and adjustments. Has a 360 degree band on it. Also has the actual bubble level clamp. Than there is the actual level. This item is also metal with dual bubble meters upper and lower. Lower has an adjustment scale on it. This level has the laser beam installed ... moreand is ready to go. Has red power switch for power installation and on/ off switch. Bottom of this level looks to be milled aluminum.Inside of case lid there are 2 screw fasteners.This item is in excellent to mint condition. Gurley level transit with its original wooden box and tripod dating from 1925. It is in great shape for its age and use as shown in the pictures. The lens looks great without any scratches or chips but it is dusty from storage. It is marked as shown with the serial number as 251222. It comes with the original wooden box and leather strap but the leather strap has been broken. This transit and box come as shown and the box measures 9" x 9" x 14-1/2" high. I don't believe the wing nuts or locking set screws on the transit legs are original. The instruction booklet is rough but complete. The tripod is 32" long. Well used Survey Transit, Model 200B, complete with original Berger metal tripod, original plumb bob, and original instrument case. The case handle has been replaced with a makeshift handle that seems to be an excellent replacement considering that the original handle is lost. This unit works very well. The lenses are in excellent condition and the view and focus are without fault. To my eye. There is some dirt and rust on the instrument case and tripod. As well as the transit body, and whole thing needs cleaning and care, but I give you credit for wanting to do that yourself if you are the kind of collector who wants the job done right. W & LE Gurley Transit with Box, Gurley Tripod and Post Grade Rod
Up for auction is a great vintage lot of surveying equipment! The transit itself is in great shape. There is some patina to the screws. But it just makes it look its age. The plastic/glass is still a little dirty, but probably would clean-up. There is no rust on it at all though! The serial number is 540320 and both the box and transit are marked with it. The box had all of its original papers and goodies, including a Bausch and lomb magnifier, a vial of amber liquid, and the w& le plumb bob. The box has half the leather strap left, and some patina on the screws attaching the leather strap. The tripod is also in great shape, the is some rust on the metal spikes at the bottom of the legs, but that is from use and to be expected. The tripod also has 3 1/2 and 8THD on the top of it. The post grade rod is in good condition. It sticks a little ... morewhen sliding, and you have to be pretty strong to open it. I bought these pieces as a group from a man who said they belonged to his father back in the 1940's and 50's, he also said that his grandfather might have also used it earlier. This is a beautiful. Vintage, wooden Surveyors Tripod that was used for serious surveying with a vintage Bostrom-Brady Transit Level. It isn't, however, limited to use as a Surveyors device. It is also suitable as a mobile or fixed mount for binoculars, a still or movie camera, a telescope, or could be made into a gorgeous floor lamp. But. Back to the basics: Maker is unknown. Total height. Folded, is 61" Effective. Working, heights range from 60" with device above that) down to as low as about 36" below which point the ends of the legs would need to be buttressed against something for stability, as the tips would no longer secure it due to the increased angle. Metal point-tipped legs are 60" in length. Circumference of mounting plate at top is 13" with a gross diameter of about 5" Measurements include the ... moretop ends of the three legs and their attaching screws. All the wing nuts are there(10 in all) and EVERY ONE works exactly the way it should. They all tighten up really nice. No sloppy play on any of them and the threads look very good. That being said I don't think this has had a lot of use. My opinion is the wear and tare on the wood was probably more from being moved around over the years than use. All of the brass leg holders are stamped with W& L.E. GURLEY TROY NY. The leather strap that holds the tripod closed is still present and usable though the leather is showing it's age. Now for the wood condition. There is one larger split on one of the legs. see last photo) It is approximately 5in. 13cm long. It starts about half way down one leg and goes towards the center but then stops. It is NOT a through crack and could be fixed relatively easy with some good adhesive and a clamp. Antique Gurley Precision Instruments Survey Transit in Box w/ Tripod
You are bidding on one antique Gurley Precision Instruments Transit Survey in its original wooden box with the original tripod. Not being in this line of work. I can't tell you if this is operational or not because I don't know what it's supposed to do. It's been kept in the box so it is in good shape. I believe it's from the 40's/50's from what I've been told but I'm sure the collector will know. It is Catalog number 132-20 which, from the research I did, looks like this piece was used a lot in forestry and military applications. The serial number on this piece is 600445. There are a lot of resources on the internet that tell about this rare. Highly collectible piece so please do some research if you're not sure. Here are a set of 3 lightweight wood sliding tripod legs that probably started life on a transit. They measure 29" compressed and 51" fully extended. Come with their 3 mounting bolts(not matching) but not the top plate. Normal surface scuffs but not cracks or breaks. As found. Would make a great floor lamp. another Ebayer sent me a little information on my item I am adding it for anyone else that may be interested. This is called an Architects Convertible Y or Wye Level model#5115 It was made in 1914. Its called a convertible because you can use it as a conventional Y-level or change it to a simple transit. This is a great piece of history.Keuffel and Esser Co.
