The transit is marked: Schwencke Kirk& Co. New York. Measures 11" wide and is 7 1/2" tall. Comes in the original wood box that is in good solid condition. Leather strap is missing. It transit seems to be complete. Lenses are clear and intact. Focus adjustment works fine. No cross hairs in the optics. Bubble is fine on the level. We took many pictures so you can get a better look at it. Being this old it will require some cleaning up so we will leave that up to you. The only thing we did was to clean the glass on the compass. Very nice cased Lietz transit#6402. All level vials are intact. And the optics are clear and perfect. It has one vertical crosshair, and two horizontal crosshairs in the top and bottom quadrant. I don't know if it was used in mining or not. There is a steel ring at the top center of the barrel, that I do not know the function of. All adjustment knobs and adjustments work as they should. The wooden case has a broken leather carrying strap, and I have no key for the box. The compass needle is a little over 4" long, and the dial 5" in diameter. In the inside door of the case is a Lasico sticker(Los Angeles Scientific Instrument Co. showing it was last cleaned and inspected on April 22, 1960. Shipping is a flat $45.00 in the Continental US. David White Company 1950 Universal Level Transit This surveying tool comes with it's own carrying/storage case. The wooden box is tongue and groove with a latch on the front that holds it closed. The leather strap and buckle go across the top for carrying. The box was painted red. With one side being grey. The bottom has rubber bumpers so it doesn't sit flat on the ground. I shows some wear giving this antique a unique look. It works like it's supposed to, storage/carrying. Dimensions of box: 14"L x 11 1/4"H x 6 3/4"W The suveying tool is in quite good condition. It swivels. The scope moves up and down, and the knobs turn quite smoothly. The bottom is threaded so it can be placed on a tri-pod. THS transit model 7401 for land surveying.
THS 1 minute transit. Model 7401. This instrument is absolutely pristine! I don't know if it was ever used in the field, if it was, there is no visible evidence on the instrument. I really don't know if THS is a brand name, I can't find anything about that name. Searches show me that this is very similar, if not the same as instruments such as Lietz Sokkisha Model 115 Model 115A Model 116. I also find it very similar to Sokkia 7327-60 and 7328-60. I saw another ad that referred to a very similar instrument as a Sokkia 115 Mountain Transit. The only difference I see in those instruments compared to this one is that all of those are black. This one is a very beautiful hammer gray finish. Very pretty. All locks, knobs, focus, leveling screws operate smoothly. Very nice optics. All bubbles are very good condition. It is hard to find ... morea noticeable fault with this instrument! Made in Japan and this appears to be a very nice quality instrument. The specs are listed on a sheet on the inside door of the case as shown in one of the pictures. The scope is 7” long and the instrument is 10” tall. The objective lens has a removable vinyl lens cover. The instrument itself screws to a aluminum base plate that holds the instrument solidly within the box. The instrument screws to a 3 1/2" x 8 TPI tripod, not included. The instrument also has a small chain hook for attachment of a plumb bob for centering purposes. Although there is a place in the instrument case for a plumb bob, there is no plumb bob included. It comes in wooden instrument box. The leather handle on the wooden box still has original plastic wrap on it! On the outside of the box is a small vinyl case with two keys for the lock on the box. On the top of the box is a“Scientific Instruments of Wisconsin, Inc. label and a stickon label with the instrument serial number, 63322. Inside the box is the metal sunshade, a Sokkisha magnifier for reading the verniers, a translucent plastic rain cover(obviously never unfolded) and a leather cover for the eyepiece
