Is made entirely of solid oak, and is in very good condition showing only minor signs of use such as light scratching and wear. This is for the vintage wood tripod pictured. I have added 9 pictures total which will include the measurements. I have looked this over and I could find no maker's marks so I am unsure of what this would fit. I'm sure this can be adapted for many different uses. The legs are in good condition. The top of this is a little warped but is still solid. I did find a little broken piece and that is shown in the 6th picture. This should have little to no effect on it. 1870 Wm Stieren Mid Size Surveyors Transit ,Box, & Tripod
This is a William Stieren surveyors transit in nice used condition. All is well with it. Optics are good, cross hairs are present, motions turn fine. Only thing wrong is it needs a good cleaning and one of the lower tangent screws was replaced with another 100 year old tangent screw, matches very nice but one of the screws is less worn and has some of its original laquer finish on it. This is a rare old style transit by a rare maker, prior to the newer standard of transits coming into being. As you can see this transit has the older style tangent screws, an older style vertical arc, an unusual old style detachable level base, and unusual shaped standards; this transit was made during that time when the makers were still trying to figure out what worked best. The scope is 9 3/4" long, compass needle is 4 1/2" and plate measures 6" ... morediameter. Postage is $40.00 to mail the transit and tripod within the US, no charge for careful packing. 1920s Brass Surveyor Transit Scope Sears Craftsman w/ Tripod
This listing is for a vintage brass surveyor's transit/ scope c1920s. It was stored for years and has some wear but is fully functional and cleaned up very beautifully. It has a wood carry case from the same era. Judging by the hardware. Also, the original owner made a custom adapter that(when attached) makes the unit able to fit any camera tripod simply by turning a screw. The tripod that comes with the unit looks to be 1940s and looks as though it was made yesterday. It, too, is fully functional and flawless in appearance. Vintage wood and brass tripod. In good vintage condition. No breaks or cracks that I could find. It adjusts from approximately 48" high to 65" high. Stamped"G.Gennert N.Y. on the head of the tripod and"Made in France Jepose" on the mount sitting on the head. 1940’s or older Wood& Brass Transit Tripod C.L. Berger& Sons of Boston. USA Selling my father’s great Antique Survey Transit Tripod Dad used Berger Boston survey equipment just like this in the Minnesota iron ore mines in the late 1940’s. So this unit is likely that old or perhaps substantially older. When the Danube Iron Ore mine on the Mesabi Iron Ore Range in Northern Minnesota closed down circa 1980. Management sold my father this tripod along with the matching Berger Boston Transit. One of my siblings is keeping the transit& stadia rod. So this auction ONLY includes the tripod as shown. The tripod is in great condition& is NOT a dirty old antique that you would be hesitant to touch! The wood has been cleaned& oiled and always stored indoors. All of the hardware is polished and looks very nice. The pictures do not ... morereally do it justice. The brass hardware is very beautiful with nice yellow& coppery colored brass. Very well& sturdily made Would make a great conversation piece or make a cool steampunk floor lamp stand if you do not want to use it as a tripod. CONDITION: Really nice with a couple antique wear spots to mention. One of the 3 pointed iron foot caps has been missing a chunk of iron for years(see pics) The remaining portion is well intact& never affected the use of the unit when we surveyed with it. Also the Bakelite plastic threaded ring that protects the brass threads has done its job well& sustained some chipping around the edges(clearly shown in pics) The ring served its purpose however. As the 3&3/8” threads are still in very nice condition. Will ship in a 6” x 60” sturdy tube via UPS. I may be able to save a couple dollars for you by dismantling the legs as shown in the pics& shipping the unit in a 36” tube– let me know if you would prefer to save a bit on S/H& assemble the lower legs yourself. Here is a very lightweight wood tripod. That was probably made for a camera. It measures 49 1/2" and does not adjust for heighth. Has a metal top section with a 1" bolt hole with set screw. Normal surface scuffs but not cracks or breaks. As found. Would make a good floor lamp but not for something heavy.

Antique Industrial Machine Age Transit Level Survey Wood Tripod Stand
This is an antique industrial machine age transit level survey wood tripod stand. I'm not sure as to its age. But it looks fairly early. Folded up. The entire piece measures 47 inches long. Each of the tapered legs measures 45 1/2 inches long. The tapered legs vary from 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/8 inches. The brass piece on top is 3 inches in diameter. The brass piece sticking up is 1 1/4 inches high. The legs can be adjusted in or out(but not shortened or lengthened) and the screws on them hold well. The bottom pointed metal attachments are rusty. But strong and intact. The brass hardware on top has tarnished. One of the legs has about 75% of its finish intact. The other two about 25% This leaves the wood in varying shades of brown, due to wear. Personally, I think he gives it a great old look. But it could use a good polishing. There is ... morean age crack at the top of one of the legs which goes around from the front to the back(please see photo) But it doesn't affect the sturdiness of the piece at all. The transit is in very good condition. Is complete. Has no scratches on lens. Does include the lens cap. The box is marked Buff& Buff Mfg. but the transit fits in it perfectly. The wood box has some expected wear and hit marks, but no cracks. The leather strap is worn and torn on one side, the other side is loose, but not separated. The box has all the original hardware. Antique Brass Maple Wood Tripod Transit Level Survey Stand Tool Industrial Age
Presented for your consideration is this antique industrial machine age transit level survey wood tripod stand. This is an early tripod constructed of brass and a very fine hardwood maple. This piece was acquired along with a solid brass Antique Herm Pfister Transit that I also have listed so I believe that may be the manufacturer however I can not locate any manufacturers markings. Folded up. The entire piece measures approximately 57 inches long. Each of the tapered legs measure approximately 54 1/2 inches long. The tapered legs vary from approximately 1 3/4" to 1" The uppermost brass mount measures approximately 3 1/2 inches in diameter. The legs can be adjusted in or out(but not shortened or lengthened) The bottom pointed metal attachments are rusty, but strong and intact. I have looked up the serial number and it dates this transit to between 1926 and 1927. All of the level bubbles are in good condition and the Compass needle is working. The lock for the needle also works. The Transit is clear to look through and it focuses and adjusts fine. The Case is in great condition. The carry strap buckles well and it Carry's the case well. The Tripod is made of hardwood and brass and is also in very good shape. This is an all around very nice transit and would make a great addition to someones collection. Antique Strassberger Surveyor Transit ca. Late 1800s Wood Tripod Early Rare Make
Marked"388" Optics are clear. 3 Line cross hairs present. Tripod and Box need cleaned up a little. Movement in all directions and features. The screw for the fine tune rotation is bent and binds a little but does still work. I have pointed to which one with a red arrow in the pictures. Might be able to straighten with some heat.
