There are brass corners and the case is dovetailed. We do not have the key. Handle is broken. The transit seems to move smoothly and looks to be in good condition. We have no idea how to test it so exact working condition is unknown. There is some wear and rust, lens looks fine. The number on the box matches the number on the case. Rare Antique C.L. BERGER Brass Oak Wood Tripod Transit Level Survey Stand Tool
Presented for your consideration is this antique industrial machine age transit level survey wood tripod stand. This is an early tripod constructed of brass and a very fine light oak hardwood. This piece was acquired along with a brass Antique C.L. BERGER& SONS Transit that I also have listed so I believe that may be the manufacturer however I can not locate any manufacturers markings. The C.L. Berger transit was mounted to this tripod and fit great so I am pretty sure it is a C.L. Berger however I can not be certain. Folded up. The entire piece measures approximately 58 inches long. Each of the tapered legs measure approximately 57 inches long. The tapered legs vary from approximately 1 1/8" to 2 1/2" wide. The uppermost brass mount measures approximately 5 inches in diameter and features the majority of its original finish ... morewith minor areas of brass showing through. The legs can be adjusted in or out(but not shortened or lengthened) The bottom pointed metal attachments are strong and intact along with additional foot pegs to allow the user an easier way to steady each leg. The only defect to note is that one of the legs exhibits a split in the uppermost part of the wood. A nice early transit stand this piece would complement any transit rather nicely.

This auction is for one vintage Brunson Transit in original wood box with plumb bob and tools. One Brunson wood tripod, one 3-part Dietzgen 6526 survey stick, and two 2-part metal survey poles. These items have been in storage for 40 years. Everything seems to work well. All bubbles are fine. The only thing I find wrong with it is that the compass doesn't move and the printing on it looks crystallized. It's a very beautiful machine. And I've used it once surveying our property with no problem. There are identifying marks made with an etching pen on the box and transit by the original owner(my father) I don't know what model it is. This tripod adapter converts a regular 5/8"x 11 tripod to use 3 1/2" x 8 instruments. I was using this with a David White LT-8300 but I don't have that anymore and I'm not planning on buying another vintage transit. It will work with any vintage transit with a large base- sometimes called a mason jar base because of it's shape. It has only seen light use as the 8300 was a teaching aid and not in field use.

Coming from a recent estate sale. Up for auction is this antique/vintage Geier& Bluhm surveyors transit with original wood box, tripod and 3 plum bobs. Two of the plum bobs are brass. We do beleive the transit to be made of brass and other metals. Everything seems to be working on the transit, nice and clear cross hairs and no damage to the bubble. Included is a heavy-duty poly-webbing shoulder strap. Collapsed, the transit is about 3' tall and fully extended, is is about 6' tall. The included 16' Crain CR Series leveling rod has four sections graduated in ft/10ths/100ths. I could not find a model number or anything like that. Condition: Very old. Has a great deal of paint. Tarnish, rust, corrosion and so on. The head compass spins pretty easily and the 4 adjusters move with easy. The mounts, which are made of copper or brass have been hit and are racked to one side.
