We estimate that this dates from the early 1940's and appears to be an NT1 model. Comes complete with theodolite, original case, sun shield and lens cap. Also have a bound printout(in German) of the Wild Spare Parts Manual for the T1A/T1AE and another photocopied manual The Theodolite and its Application. In beautiful condition, leather strapping looks to be cared for, latches work fine to hold in place for transport, sun shield is tight on scope, but looks to never have been used as there is no evidence of scuffing on device or cuff. This is a great working Topcon TL-60 theodolite. The unit has wear marks on the body of it. The lenses are all clear, and the base is good also. The case is worn but works fine. The inside foam is perfect. The hinges are working but the pins have been broken and it has wire inside the hinges.still opens flawlessly. I took the unit to Geo Shack to have it inspected, cleaned and any repairs needed. The unit was in perfect working order, all the glass was cleaned and a new top handle was put on. This unit is old but in great condition.i will include all paper work for the Geo Shack work.the work along was over 200 dollars.so this unit is ready to go into the field! i will take a reasonable offer.thank you.

Doing some internet research I found that this mans full name was Edwin Ferry Johnson born 1803 died 1872 his profession was a civil engineer. I found a memoir for him on the internet and discovered many interesting things. Just one of which was his father in 1817 was selected to take charge of surveying the boundary line between of the U.S. and British Provinces of which his son Edwin accompanied him. As far as Edwin. He was instrumental in the development ... moreof the railway system in the United States. He was Chief Engineer for many railroad projects country wide in the mid 1800’s. So he was pretty famous in his time for the engineering work he did. Read his memoir. He was quite an extraordinary man. This is undoubtedly one of his instruments making it a great piece of US railroad history. I am not sure if this can be cleaned up or if you would want to as I think it looks pretty cool showing its age and use. It is solid brass but parts you can see look silver where someone cleaned a small section of it.
