Here's a circa 1900 Antique CL Berger& Sons Surveying Transit in Wood Case offered at NO RESERVE! The transit appears to be in Good Condition. Well used and showing the wear you should expect from an instrument that is 100 years old. I'm not a Surveyor but everything appears intact on the transit, please refer to the pictures and ask any questions if you're uncertain or I've left anything out. There's wear to the finish, loss to the black paint, and accumulated dust and dirt. The dial indicates a Patent Date of 1897 and I would say it was made not long after that date. Whatever accessories came with the transit are missing. The case is nicely dovetailed with much original and later instructions and other paperwork intact. The outside of the case has about 1,000 dents, dings, chips, scratches, holes, missing pieces ... moreand so forth but is still tight and strong functionally. You are bidding on an ANTIQUE WARREN-KNIGHT SURVEYOR'S TRANSIT MODEL WK-7-CF WITH ORIGINAL WOODEN CASE(COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL INTERNAL LABELS AND SKELETON KEY! I'm not sure of its age. My research suggests that Warren-Knight began manufacturing these in 1913. Based on the Center City Philadelphia address on the case. This one has to be pre-1963(when Warren Knight moved) and most likely it's closer to 1913 than 1963. Also included is the original lens cap and lens hood. Condition Details: The transit itself. As well as the case, show lots of patina/character that suggests careful(though extensive) field use. I'm not familiar with surveyor's instruments, but giving this a thorough look-over, I'm convinced that it's a complete and functional transit. The case locks and unlocks with its original skeleton key. And it ... morehas what I believe is the original heavy-duty leather strap. The wooden case is in good shape cosmetically for its age. The leather strap could do with a good cleaning, but I'm leaving it alone in case you want to preserve its current condition. If you do want to clean it, it's easily removable with screws. I'm not sure whether the long hinge on the wooden case is original, or if it's a replacement; however, it's a good, functioning hinge. The case still has its original Warren-Knight decal and four rubber feet. The two original labels are still affixed to the case. Although the inner one has lost some paper. See photos for detail. There is no marking on this transit but we found a couple of others just like this one on EBAY and they stated that they were Antique Brass Keuffel& Essex surveryor transit. What is nice about this transit is it comes with the origianal wooden tripod and a wooden 8' foot grade leveling rod. Transit lenses are clear and seem to work/look just fine. The wooden box that holds the transit is very neat. Too. If you look closely in the pictures you will see that there is a blumb-bob in the front right corner of the box A very nice set. I didn't find anything with this same mounting base. I'm sure if your taking the time to read this then you probably know exactly what it is used for so I will give you the best description I can. This is an adjustable tripod and it adjusts from approximately 32" 53" 81cm- 135cm) It could be longer but that is in the position to where both clamps are holding the round extension legs and held securely. The measurements of the brass base are as follows. The center insertion hole is.44 in. 11mm) The inside offset circle diameter is 2.5 in. 63mm) Outside top diameter edge to edge is 5" 127mm) If there are any other measurements you would like to know please let me know. ... moreNow for the condition. Everything appears to be present with the tripod that should be there. It is made of brass and I think the wood is oak but just my best guess. All the wing nuts are there(10 in all) and EVERY ONE works exactly the way it should. They all tighten up really nice. No sloppy play on any of them and the threads look very good. That being said I don't think this has had a lot of use. My opinion is the wear and tare on the wood was probably more from being moved around over the years than use. All of the brass leg holders are stamped with W& L.E. GURLEY TROY NY. The leather strap that holds the tripod closed is still present and usable though the leather is showing it's age. Now for the wood condition. There is one larger split on one of the legs. see last photo) It is approximately 5in. 13cm long. It starts about half way down one leg and goes towards the center but then stops. It is NOT a through crack and could be fixed relatively easy with some good adhesive and a clamp. I don't see any sight lines inside the scope when you're viewing like what you see in a gun scope. Has the end cap. No box or tripod. This is a set that consists of a level transit with tripod and a level measuring rod. These all show signs of use and wear but overall are in antique good condition. Will a little cleaning and polishing they'll look real sharp. Maybe even take them out and give them a little old school field time again too. Lot includes the following: Bostrom Model No. 2 Surveying Instrument~This was described to us as a level transit. This is a thee poster that has a working level bubble on the instrument and brass adjustment screws on the underside. The instrument leveled up nicely when mounted on the tripod. The upper half does feel a bit loose and wobbles. Has some rust on it here and there but ... morethe scale is readable. Includes a plumb bob{note the string is short} and the original carry storage chest. Optics need cleaned but you can see the cross hair when viewing through it. Chest measures 11 ½ x 4 ¾ x 6 and has a storage spot inside for the plumb bob. Tripod~This has a threaded center post for attaching the instrument and 3 long one piece legs. Legs measure 59 long. This listing is for a nice vintage Powr-Kraft Survey Transit Level by Montgomery Ward Model 84-6451-1 With Carry Case. Latches work well& case is nicely intact. However there is a six inch crack in the base of the case. This is only cosmetic in nature& does not affect the use in any way. See pics This is an estate find item. I have not tested it therefore I cannot guarantee it. But I see no reason this unit will not function just fine. I did check over the leveling feet& misc. knobs& scope lenses. Etc. could see nothing that looked flawed, etc. There is a place for the Plumb Bob but there is NO plumb bob included. You could pick up a plumb bob at the local hardware store to make this unit fully functional.

The box has the same serial number as the unit. This is a large and heavy transit. Measures almost 14.5 inches tall(out of box. Still on plate) A very nice unit, barely any scratches on the textured black finish(only scratches I really see are on the lens cap) When you look through the scope, the view is crystal clear and the hairline grid is all there. The focus wheel works as it should. The box has wear and scratching on the outside as well as some small holes. But it's pretty standard for the wooden boxes to look this way. Vintage Sears Craftsman Surveying Transit in Box w/ Oak Tripod
Transit I believe is complete functions and appears to be in good condition. The scope is very clean as are the levels may be missing a cap on the eyehole. The box has some missing wood blocks and wear stains and a broken strap. There is 2 strap screws in the back of the box which I will remove The tripod measures 57" closed and has wear with no severe cracks but slight age and wear also has no strap. Shipping will be the actual cost paid by the buyer. Somewhere around 75-$100 to ship both items separate. Selling as is no returns so please view photos. I WILL CONSIDER SELLING ITEMS SEPARATELY.
