19th Century Heliostat Scientific Surveying Instrument Transit
Up for auction today is this Very Nice 19th Century Scientific Surveying Instrument. I believe this is a Heliostat. I don't know much about this instrument so please feel free to ask questions. The mirror cover is marked'Secretan a Paris' Made of brass. The device measures about 15" tall with the mirror in the horizontal position. The instrument revolves with the mirror gradually spinning into a different position. I believe the drum at the bottom houses a spring mechanism. There is a winding arbor at the bottom with a clock type key. I tried to wind. But the mechanism appears to be wound up tight. There are numbers and letters for various settings. Otherwise no makers marks. I believe there was a wooden box cover that is missing. Otherwise the instrument appears to be complete with no missing parts. ALL IN VERY GOOD CONDITION The Transit is completely functional. The Transit is app 18.5 inches long. The Tripod is Oak no breaks or cracks. The Tripod stands 5 feet tall. Optics look good. Not sure if there was a cover on eyepiece. Just picked up from a local estate. It needs cleaned up a little. This is a useful vintage David White Meridian surveyor's transit made by Realistic. Menomonee Falls, Wis. It is in working condition with some wear to it. Rust on several areas and missing what I think is a Plumb Bob(there is an empty clip attached to base) Item with cover is approx. 15" side clip to clip. Oval base is about 14 1/4" x 5 1/2" Base is black and instrument is grey with a red cover. Overall it is approx. 15"x5"x9"h. Instrument is approx. 7 1/4" high with a level on top. Kern Aarau Transit Wye Level Telescope with Lens Cap Leveling Head Counterweight(extra) Eyepiece Wood Case This level is usable or very nearly so. The Head is free from scrapes and scratches. There is A light dappling of corrosion through. But not lifting, the paint on the frame holding the level and the rings. Somewhat more at each end oft the exposed face of the bubble capsule. All adjusters and fasters or straight and move freely as does the main pivot. The Head is missing one small screw of the two securing the white shield. The Telescope appears intact with no dents or scratches. The paint is chipped or worn through in a few spots. The ring lands each have an area of heavy corrosion which does not seem to weaken the land or breach the tube. The objective and eyepiece lenses are unblemished and bright though dirty on the inside. The telescope ... moreis missing the eyepiece adjuster gearshaft and knob. The box is rough and in pieces but could be reassembled nicely but restorable is likely too strong a word. Description: This sale is for the Bausch& Lomb Explorer/ Expedition Size Transit w/ Box pictured above. This compact/ small size transit is very nice and very unusual. Bausch and Lomb first opened their doors in the mid 1850's and were well known in the optics business before they went into a business partnership with George Saegmuller in 1905. And then Carl Zeiss in 1907 at which point they also began to produce Surveying instruments, transits and other ... morescientific and engineering instruments. They manufactured surveying instruments up until the United States entry into the First World War in about 1917. After the war, production of these sorts lines was never resumed. It seems there was better money making things for the military and that became their primary focus. Everything on this small transit seems to be working nicely. The scope is approx. 8" long and the optics are clear with crosshairs present. The serial# 7937 is seen under the compass glass. There are also 2 patent dates found there from 1903. As well as the name Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Note how the leveling vials are incorporated into the plate under the compass glass as opposed to being mounted on the standards like on most larger instruments. The transit fits into the box laying on it side. The box is OK with normal scuffs. The different finishes on the mostly brass instrument are original and OK. They purposefully left some areas like the base and eyepieces in natural brass. It has a 3" full vertical circle scaled to 30' Please look at all the pics to see the details and condition. Up for auction is a David& White survey transit. Model 8300 I bought this at a garage sale. So I don't know much about it. I did do a little bit of research on it and it appears to be from 1941. Take a look at the chart and you'll see the serial number(109821) falls in between the 1941 and 1942 year bracket. It appears to be in good shape, clear optics. It comes with a hard"Grey not Orange" case. But no manual or accessories, only what you see in the pics. All that being said this piece is being sold as is. Up For Sale: One 18" Long, Vintage Keuffel& Esser K&E Transit Theodolite In Wood Case Surveying. As far as I can determine this is an instrument from the 1960's. It is Model 75-300 and the serial number is 201191. This is very clean. Functioning K&E Transit with good glass. It is one of the longest focal length theodolites I have encountered. Tripod screw = 3.5" x 8 Thread. Transit comes in it's original box which is solid, has a strong strap, but is rough outside& in need of refinishing- dovetailed. One of the brass corner protectors has come off. But it is inside the box. There is no plumb bob. As far as I can tell this is solid painted brass. ANTIQUE 1880's BRASS KERN AARAU SURVEYING TRANSIT WYE LEVEL SWISS 22035
This is a very nice 14" brass antique Kern-Aarau Wye Level. With wooden case. It is marked No.22035. I was told it was made prior to 1889 when J.Kern began trading as Kern& Cie. I can not find any other marking to verify these dates. There are some scratches, but this is in surprisingly good condition. The metal latch part in the box falls off, so may need to be repaired if you want it to be a functional lock. There is no key. The telescope does magnify. But there is a smudge and what appears to be a hair or crack. I attempted to photograph these. The"hair" is shown on the pic of the leaves. Vintage David White Model 3000 Surveying Transit with Original Box
Hello and welcome to my auction listing. This item is a Vintage David White Model 3000 surveying transit in its original wooden box with leather strap. Inside the box you will fine the transit. The original owner's manual, string, and a plumb bob. All items have been meticulously cleaned. David White is known for its precision surveying instruments and a tradition of quality since the inception of the company in 1895 in Milwaukee. Wisconsin. According to the serial number used to access the year of manufacture, it is estimated to be manufactured in 1953. This fine vintage piece is over 50 years old. Despite its age, it is nice condition with the following notes I wish to disclose: There is some wear in the brass finish about the knobs. Base, and lens cap. The wood box appears to have been repaired at one time(see picture of lid with David ... moreWhite emblem) Otherwise. It is strong and shows now signs of a decrease in integrity to serve its function, but rather adds to the value of this vintage piece. There is some paint wear in some locations throughout. But overall the paint is in good condition. Please see photos of the item from the top down as there is one area on the top of the barrel and another on the frame below the eyepiece to the left and right. For the age of this piece, it is in great condition. Lastly. I know nothing about surveying equipment and transits. Therefore, I am unable to diagnose whether the following is user error sort of speak or an issue to disclose. When I look through the eyepiece, it is blurry. When I face the transit toward a light, I can detect light but cannot see any images. There does not appear to be any jagged edges or lines in the lenses which would, to me, indicate a cracked lens. I also inspected the lenses and do not see any issues other than blurriness. They may just need to be cleaned or there may be another issue with them I am unaware of. Overall. Antique Tripod Wood Legs Transit Steam Punk Surveying Stand Oak Brass Metal
Selling this old Wood leg(I think Oak) survey transit tripod stand with adjustable legs. As pictured it stands straight up 40 inches plus there is about another 12 inches of adjustment left to let out. Parts of it look to be brass and some parts look to be metal. Not perfect but great for many uses. There was at one time a chain that went between each leg that is missing but can be easily replaced. The legs are 2 piece and have a round ring inset that allows the legs when slid all the way in to be stable while carrying; these are a nice decorator touch. The feet are metal. The legs have a bolt that tightens to keep them from sliding. One is missing a nipple that keeps the bolt straight. Finish is quit worn.
