Vintage Swift Instruments Inc brass and metal surveyor's sight level with leather case. The interesting thing about this item is the stamp reads"Swift Instruments Inc. Boston 25. Mass" No where does it say Swift and Anderson. Was it before Anderson or after? If you know, please feel free to share that information with me. This sight level has been used but not abused. There are surface scratches on the gray galvanized type finish and the brass fitting on both ends and bubble housing. There is an indentation on the metal where the factory stamp was placed. The leveling glass appears to have hairline surface scratches. Measures 1" X 1" X 5" and bubble housing rises up 1/4" and measures approximately 1/2" X 1-1/2" The eye piece measures 1/2" diameter and protrudes from the level body approximately ... more1/4" The stained leather carrying pouch/case has scratches and normal wear marks but is in overall good condition. VTG Lietz 8040-00 Hand Held Surveying Level Pocket Scope Leather Case Working This hand-held surveying level is 5" long but the draw-out eyepiece extends it to 7" for greater accuracy. It is 1x. In other words, it does not magnify the targeted image. Nor does it focus- what you see is what you get. I'm calling this level"vintage" because it was my grandfather's. And he passed away in 1985. I don't know how long he had it before that. Lietz is now Sokkia. At least the part of the company that sells these devices. You can see one in the Sokkia Supplies and Accessories Catalog( and they still use the same part number. 8040-00. Upon close inspection. The red tape on the barrel is not a repair, but a modification. A layer of thin, translucent red tape covers the small window that admits light, and the opaque tape ... moreholds the edges down. The result is a split screen in the viewfinder, half red and half clear. Apparently, Grandpa liked the contrast. I have not removed the tape, but I don't suspect any damage underneath. In the case. The unit measures approximately 6.25" long x 21" wide x 1.75" deep, and weighs 7 ounces. There are several scratches on outside of barrel. The glass is dirty but not cracked. The bubble appears well-formed. And moves freely. The red tape seems to be not a repair, but a way to make the display two colors for better contrast.

for auction is an Unusual hand saw. It is a patent pending saw. It is a recent estate find. It is unusual in that it has a cross test level built into the handle. Also it has a brass insert on the front of the handle that makes it square to the edge of the blade. The blade is 26' long. It is 7 TPI. The blade is pretty good cleaned condition. The previous owner must of started to restore it. But never finished the project. this saw is a project) There are issues. One of the bubbles in the level in the handle is dry. The other bubble is good. The handle has multiple cracks. the walls of the handle are cracked where the level goes) see pictures) The blade is straight but there are 2 teeth missing in action at the front end of the blade. The saw handle has some damage on the upper horn. There is spots of pitting and areas of minor, shallow ... morepitting. The Mark on the blade is present but very faint. some is obscured by the corrosion/pitting mark. see pictures) Some of the mark says; scribe level& saw. It is also marked east Madison street Chicago ILL It is also marked patent pending. The maker of the saw is Also on the blade. But it is very faint and I can not make it out. It is something?
