Varian 843 High Vacuum Ion Gauge Controller With Dual Thermocouple These Varian(Model 843) ion gauge controllers feature dual thermocouple gauges. Autoranging, process control and are a precision instrument designed to indicate high vacuum pressures from 1 to 1x10-8 Torr. The two independent thermocouple gauges allow for pressure measurement in the range of 0.001 to 1 Torr while the ion gauge allows for pressure measurement in the 1x10-3 to 1x10-8 Torr range. The Varian 843 has one independent thermocouple gauge set points and two independent ionization gauge set points to provide process control over 8 decades of high vacuum pressure. The basic unit is comprised of a power supply, electrometer, emission controller and ion gauge meter. These Varian 843 high vacuum ion gauge controllers operate on either 115 or 220 VAC.

Here is the description for this model number from the manufacturer's instruction manual(available online as a PDF by googling on the part number) The variable leak valve can be added to any vacuum system to establish an adjustable leak. It offers unprecedented control sensitivity and stability with leak rates as small as 1 x 10( to-10) Torr-litres per second. Leak rate adjustment is controlled with knurled knobs. The entire valve. Including the drive mechanism, is bakeable to 450°C in either the open or closed position. Both components of the seal mechanism(sapphire assembly and gasket assembly) are easily replaceable. The variable leak valve includes a movable piston with an optically-flat sapphire that meets a captured ... moremetal gasket. This forms a seal completely free from friction. Seizing, and shear. The sapphire’s movement is controlled through a threaded shaft-and-lever mechanism having a mechanical advantage of 13,000 to 1. VARIAN 951-5091 VALVE #2
I am offering the Varian model 951-509 1 Valve without knob displayed in the photo for restoration. This manual right angle valve. S/N H8 917, was parted with four other valves from an experimental apparatus. The copper gaskets were removed& the flanges protected with shock absorbent materials. This valve opens& closes as it should. But the set screw does not hold the knob tightly to the shaft; it appears to be stripped and the valve is hence offered for restoration. Note my three other valves have been fitted with an allen head screw rather than a set screw to firmly hold the knob to the shaft. Besides the control knob. This valve looks to be in excellent physical condition- see photos.
