In fine original condition. Though unsigned, it is certainly from the workshop of the London based maker James Swift and would have been the largest model produced by this company(It stands at 18" as seen in the images) It's a nicely equipped outfit. Comprising four signed, cased Swift objectives(note that the 1" objective is in a Swift case, but one originally for an 1/8" lens) a substage analyser, eypiece camera lucida and a fine achromatic condenser with mechanical iris. A further analyser is contained in a drawer above the nosepiece and can be slid in the viewing field easily for polariscopic analysis. ... moreThe fine focus is Swift's patent type and works very well. All other mechanics and optics are also in excellent condition, as is the binocular prism. The substage assembly can swing out for easy access to the condenser. The glazed mahogany case is original and is fitted with a drawer racked for slides(empty) The condition of the lacquer is extremely fine. With the exception of some small spots on one side of the binocular tube where something has splashed on to it in the past. The pictures show this clearly. There is evidence of a small paint patch on the back of the large foot, but it doesn't distract from the very striking appearance of this handsome instrument. At the front of the turret we can see an inscription in golden lettering with the logo of the brand(the word PRIOR into a diamond shape) and the microscope serial number: 24177. The oscillating mirror under the simple plate is also in perfect condition and so are all the wheels. Screws and golden brass gears designed to manipulate the different components. Each one of the microscope’s lenses bear the logo of the brand and the corresponding serial number engraved in the metal. They also differ by an enameled perimeter groove with different width and color in each lens. In excellent condition and working like new, is a collector’s piece dating from the 19th century(circa 1870) Its lovely metal design, stylized and with fine mobile parts, is highly remarkable just like its great working order. The microscope comes in a beautiful wooden case with the original lock and key, containing also a sliding small wooden box with glass plates: samples from the late 1900s. The rest of the microscope is made of brass and the metal is in great condition: shiny, polished and with its original finish. The glass is also perfectly preserved and contributes to the correct operation of the microscope. This is a binocular microscope and this characteristic turns it into a very special item. At the eyepieces’ base we can see some gears and a small operating wheel designed to separate both pieces to comfortably graduate their adaptation to the user’s eyes. Another curious feature is the mobile sample plate. Provided with a pair of wheels that graduate their location: one moves it forwards and backwards and the other to the left and to the right. In what I would call VG used condition, made mostly of painted brass, everything turns/moves/rotates/adjusts fine including eyepieces width adjustment, it looks like the mirror is missing but the focusing lens and adjustable iris is here and works fine,and I am not sure of the condition of the optics, though the lenses are somewhat dirty. It has two separate optical paths, with lenses providing two slightly different viewing angles. This particular microscope was made in Japan. It is in very good condition, with the lenses showing a clear image, however, functionality beyond that is unknown. This microscope does not have a built-light source, but does include a clear glass and opaque glass stage(the ... moreplatform where you place the slides) that each pull out. The microscope is built with two separate halves, which can separate from each other, and has a black body, with shiny metal eyepieces and focus knobs. This excellent scientific instrument includes the following accessories: Nine Eyepiece Lenses- This is the lens at the top of the microscope that you look through. There is a set of two already attached to the microscope. With an 8x magnification, and another set of two with 15x magnification. Included as well are 5 lenses, in a box, that seem to be vintage Unitron lenses, marked 25mm, 18mm, 9mm 12.5mm, and one is unmarked. These lenses are possibly circa 1950s-60.
