Reichert, Wien(See close-up image) In addition, there is a serial number engraved at the base of the cylindrical pillar that supports the instrument, No. 17616(See close-up image) This serial number dates this instrument to the year 1897. NOTE: For more details on the history of the C. Reichert optical firm. Please see below. This model microscope is one of the earliest stands manufactured by the Reichert firm. It very closely resembles a similar model manufactured by E. Leitz. Wetzlar. In fact, it bears the same Stativ(Stand) number as the similar instrument offered by Leitz. It is a relatively simple design that was originally intended for use in schools and universities where budgets for scientific instruments were often tight.
