Stanley 28 Tooth Scaper Blade and No. 80 Cabinet Makers Scraper Plane w/Box
This auction is for a nearly new No. 80 cabinet scraper in its original box. Japan finish is 99% and beautiful. Nickel plated thumbscrews are bright and 99% as well. The blade clamping bracket has the sweetheart logo and patent dates of 8-2-14 and 8-23-14. The full length original blade has the notched rextangular logo with made in USA below it. The box is original to the plane and has a nice 97% label. There are no splits on the corners but it appears that someone shipped this tool in the box and it shifted and pushed some from the inside out so there is a compromise on the label and back ends and the box top as well. Please see pictures. The second tool in this lot is a nice example of Stanley's realatively scarce 28 tooth scaper blade that worked for Stanley's No12. 12 1/2, 12 3/4 and 112 scrapers. These cutters are much heavier ... morethan the standard scraper blades and have a grooved toothing section on one end. This one is stamped with the number 28, for 28 teeth per inch. It measures 2 7/8 by 5 inches. I believe this is the full original length, as I have several similar scraper cutters here all the same length-some have never been used. This blade has a beautiful patina to it with no rust or pitting. The collection was a large assemblage consisting of flint Flakes. The pieces range from Mesolithic microliths to superb Early Bronze Age Barbed and Tanged Arrowheads. The unknown collector frequented 4 main locations and these are coded and inscribed on each find. The codes are: o" = Southern Hill"s.l.a. = Stock Lane"s.c. = Stock Close"1.26" = Southern Hill(different area/ period of collecting? Old carved bone and wood knife– or is it a scraper? 11 ½” overall. With a curved blade and crudely carved decoration on the handle. Very likely this comes from the Pacific Northwest or Alaska. At one point on the handle is a 3/16” indentation with a small hole in the center. Which may suggest that something was once attached there. Maybe not. There are natural striations and surface irregularities in the bone. Unsigned. Very good condition. There’s a thin 3” shaving off a corner of the wood on the handle, clearly old, and one little nick in the blade. No cracks, dents, or repair.
