There is an area on the handle where a shield must have been, and a Ebay knife aficionado tells us" This is the Camillus 72 Carpenter's and Whittlers knife. The handles are bone. Made from the shin bone of cattle(most likely from Argentina) and the missing shield is called the Federal Shield. Your knife was made in the late 1940s or possibly the very early 1950s.
