Up for bid is one Vintage ABBEY& IMBRIE Nickel Plated Brass Salt Water Reel with 2:1 multiplier gear action. This reel has nickel plated brass body and trim. The plating is in poor condition with surface staining. Oxidation, and brass showing(see photos) There is a clicker controlled by a slide button on the rear plate. It is in good working condition. The handle has what appears to be a hard rubber knob. The face plate is marked with"ABBEY& IMBRIE. N. Y. PAT. OCT.8, 1889" I believe the reel was manufactured by Julius vim Hofe because the referenced Patent Date was issued to Julius vom Hofe(only one fishing related patent was issued that day) The foot has a hole in the center which was something Julius vom Hofe did on his reels, and J. vom Hofe was one of the manufacturers that made reels for ABBEY& IMBRIE. It measures ... more3-7/16" diameter. 4-1/4" deep including the handle, and has a foot measuring 3-1/8" long by 11/16" wide. Vintage Etude Music Magazine Oct 1939 - Featuring Contralto Marian Anderson
The Etude Music Magazine October 1939- Halloween Issue w/ article honoring Marian Anderson's contralto style. This Halloween issue of The Etude Music Magazine has issues with the cover. But would still make a great holiday decor item for a music teacher or music academy. The best part of this magazine is an article by Marian Anderson and her point of view regarding the contralto vocal range. Also contains a beautiful photo. Over 60 pages of great stories featuring artists. Their techniques(see table of contents photo) The entire middle 12 pages include sheet music of several varieties(see TOC) There's a tear on the back page(see photo) but only involves want ads. There are annotations in the magazine and it appears"The Etude" on the cover has been colored in with crayon(hard to tell if it's part of the cover design and ... moreintentional to look like done by a child, or if actually is the work of a child. Color matches the next line down exactly. Collar on dress looks the same) Overall, the magazine is in OK shape for 70+ years old, staples are intact, there are minor edge frays and some scruff. makes it look at that much more vintage. It's attractive, has a cute cover and would be perfect as a Halloween decor, but the Marian Anderson article alone is worth having this issue because if one were to search her name on the Internet, many beautiful photos, Playbills and record album covers come up on her as an artist, but this is the only interview or article I've been able to find on her that goes into depth about her contribution to the arts.
