When item is plugged in, the light switches from low to high(noticeable brighter) and all of knobs(which adjust focus, position work. I am not very familiar with the lensometer or know much about it, but from turning it and adjusting the switches and knobs, everything seems to work just fine and be in good order. The lensometer was obtained through an old optometrist office and is in good condition, having been stored for many years. The gear move freely but I would think that the old grease needs to be removed and new grease placed in the moving parts to refine the pin point precision that this tool is used for.
