I am selling this Green's phoropter out of my optometry practice. Unlike most of the Green's phoroptors that you see for sale from estate liquidation sales and etc. This instrument was actually in daily use in an overflow exam lane to over-refract CL patients in our practice up until maybe five years ago. The gentleman that I worked with and eventually purchased the practice from took very meticulous care of all of his equipment, and this phoropter is in very good overall mechanical and cosmetic condition. The sphere and cyl wheels turn smoothly, as well as the Risley prisms, and the lenses are very clean for the most part. The JCC axis clicks into place and operates smoothly. I will include a dust cover for it as well as a box of small accessories: red and green lens inserts. Antique American Optical Phoroptor and Antique Exam Chair
A very rare and unique complete eye refraction phoroptor and chair from the 1930's. The phoroptor is an American Optical Additive Effective Power Phoroptor(minus cylinder) serial number G1904. This one was made by AO. Not a subsidiary company. Based on the last patent listed on the unit; 1887049(11/8/1932) one must estimate the age of the unit in the early 1930s but since AO has no records it cannot be pinpointed. This unit comes with the original near point rod, the original rotary near point card, and the original dust cover which is still very pliable and not cracked or torn. I find all portions of the phoroptor to be functioning and as an optometrist I think it could be used today in place of a"modern" phoroptor. The chair is from The Eugene Berninghaus Company. Manufacturers of Professional Chairs, Cincinnati, Ohio and ... moreis titled on the foot rest The Revelation. A 1922 newspaper advertisement on-line shows a Hercules Barber Chair that appears identical to The Revelation. The E. Berninghaus Company existed from 1872 to 1938. This again makes a true date impossible but I assume late 20s or early 30s. My chair is hydraulic, black leather upholstery(original) white porcelain, and chrome(poor condition on base) Also included. As shown in photo 10, is a bolt-on attachment that holds the phoroptor in place in front of the patient. The phoroptor holding bar also moves up and down on the rod to adjust for the patient height. Overall this is a very unique combination of antique eye examination equipment from an old optometry office in Winfield. KS.
