Offered for your consideration is a vintage Sturkey permanent microtome blade. This is a precision. Finely crafted blade. The blade was precisely ground from carbon steel and it comes in its original wooden storage box. If you know what thisis, then you likely know how costly they are. This example is priced for a quick sale. The blade has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original. It's free of any significant corrosion or pitting with just some scattered small carbon spots as shown. The blade does not appear to have been sharpened and shows some wear. This is a Swift microtome model# MA501. No. 69152. I don't know the year of manufacture on this item. Made of cast iron and chrome brass parts. The microtome weighs 3.5 pounds. All mechanisms work excellently. The clamping mechanism has a knurled knob and the dial is turned in 1000th inch increments and is locked in place by a ratchet. The specimen is clamped in place and advances upward manually as you turn the dial. A sharp razor is brought across the smooth surface to shave off a section of your specimen which can be placed in a watch-glass of water and the process repeated. Fisher Scientific 860 Sliding Microtombe Up for auction is a used Fisher Scientific 860 Sliding Microtome that is in good physical condition. The unit is a little dirty but nothing that would prevent it from operating normally. All the mechanics work well. The adjustments slide and turn easily. Please refer to the pictures provided below for more details on the physical condition of this item. We used some WD-40 on this unit to get it operating properly. Due to this. The wooden board probably soaked some up and may smell like it somewhat. NOTE TO BUYER: This unit does NOT come with a blade. When we first received this unit the part the(we assume) holds the blade was seized in place and did not move. We lubricated as much of the machine as we could and were able to get everything to move smoothly and properly. One thing that should be noted though is when the slice size is set to its maximum. The arm that moves the lever for the sample position doesn't always engage. Vintage Bausch & Lomb Optical Plain Microtome Blade/Knife 90mm
I found this among some of my grandfathers things recently. The B.L.O.CO. on the handle indicates that it was made by Bausch& Lomb Optikal Company Gmbh in Germany sometime between 1925 and 1945. I have found photographs of similar microtome blades by B&L from 1907 and 1922 but this one has a more strongly made handle for sharpening/honing/stropping. I have not seen any other B&L microtome blades listed on ebay or anywhere else so I will assume that this is fairly rare. The blade is 90mm with an 85mm cutting edge. The wooden box is felt lined. Vintage Spencer American Optical MICROTOME, Model 810
ANOTHER ONE OF JACK'S AUCTIONS! US BUYERS ONLY. Measuring about 12" x 9" x 8" tall) and weighing about 33 pounds. This vintage American Optical Microtome appears to be in GOOD CONDITION. When I bought it, it was covered in dust and I cleaned it up the best I could. You may want to do some further cleaning in those hard to get at spots. Cosmetically, there is normal wear from use and one unusual issue. The metal A/O name tag on the machine(seen in my 5th picture above) is split in half. Somehow it got sliced. Operationally, everything seems to work as it should. However, the hand-crank wheel pictured in my last picture does not sit tightly on it's shaft. There is a screw(seen in that picture) that tightens the wheel to the shaft but it is tightened as tight as it will go.
