Bausch and Lomb Rotary Automatic Microtome
Needs a quick clean and oil to be ready to be put back in service. It does seem to work well and operate smoothly. The automatic advance works and is adjustable. I'm not sure if that is a blade in the holder or a rake that would go behind a blade.It has a very tiny radius on pointy end as seen in the photos. I have never used one of these thats why I'm not sure about the blade. Use it or just display it as a great medical antique.It is very heavy and precisely built. I pack well and usually ship out pretty quickly.Check my feedback and other listings for more great items.All my items come from auctions,estates,flea market or yard sales. This RARE Bausch and Lomb microtome is made of cast iron and comes in a wood box. I do not know if the box is the original or someone designed it. There is the No. 4894 stamped on the plate. The name Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester. NY is stamp is also on the plate. The blade case has the same name but with New York and Chicago underneath. I do not know if any parts are missing except the blades. The tray appears to be copper on the bottom but silver inside. There moving parts and the screw pieces can be tightened and loosened. I have researched this and no one can tell me anything about it except what it is. With that, it is being sold"as is" because I cannot guarantee it's working condition and parts. Vintage Bausch & Lomb Optical Plain Microtome Blade/Knife 90mm
I found this among some of my grandfathers things recently. The B.L.O.CO. on the handle indicates that it was made by Bausch& Lomb Optikal Company Gmbh in Germany sometime between 1925 and 1945. I have found photographs of similar microtome blades by B&L from 1907 and 1922 but this one has a more strongly made handle for sharpening/honing/stropping. I have not seen any other B&L microtome blades listed on ebay or anywhere else so I will assume that this is fairly rare. The blade is 90mm with an 85mm cutting edge. The wooden box is felt lined. It comes from my late uncles lab and I am selling off all his equipment. It turns on and appears to work to but again I cannot attest to its proper working condition. Ugly cosmetics dark gray paint over the standard gray finish is not holding on head or stand. Head zooms from 1 to 2.5 but power knob moves harder then normal eyepieces not included. K stand 1 knob broken movements on both tracks smooth. Glass dirty but not damaged.
