New Holland 717 Super two row pull type silage forage chopper, 540 pto
You are viewing a used New Holland model 717 Super two row silage/ forage chopper I have for sale. It is in very good condition and it was used two years ago(2011) to chop silage corn. I bought this from a local farmer that used it on 35 acres that year. He told me he replaced all the bearings in the PTO driveline recently. I hooked it up for the photos and ran it for a half hour and it all worked very smoothly. I planned to keep it and use it this year. But I have since bought a larger Field Queen self propelled machine. This machine runs on 540 PTO and that was why I bought it. You can use it with a smaller tractor that does not have 1000 PTO like most silage choppers require. This machine has been used on both wide row(36 inches) and narrow row(30 inch) planted corn. With 30 inch corn. You just have to drive more carefully, it does a good ... morejob on both. It has a hand crank to rotate the chute right and left and a rope you pull to adjust the angle of the discharge flap. It has a place on the side where you can mount a hydraulic cylinder to raise and lower the head. A hydraulic cylinder is not included, but as seldom as you need to raise the head, I planned to just use a ratchet link to raise it for transport. They sell them at any farm store, and that way you don't have to hook up any hydraulics. The head is a model 770 which is a newer head than this machine. It has a single large blade for each row which is nicer than the head it came out new with had. Which has a sickle that cuts off both rows. This is just a newer, better built head. The chains on it look good and it is in good working order. It looks like to me that the knives and side shear knives were replaced not too long ago, they are in good condition. There is a wagon hitch on the back to pull a wagon with. It has a blade sharpening attachment on the back which sure is handy as it allows you to sharpen the blades without taking them off the machine- see photo.
