HALLIGAN"s Coffee Can ca 1920-30s Davenport IA Iowa 1 lb Whole Bean Pure Quill
This is a beautiful coffee can from Halligans brand of pure quill coffee which was in Davenport IA until 1952 This can is a one pound can and is very clean. There is a nice Whole Bean paper line advertising all around the can that is original too and in great condition. I dont know much about this type of advertising. But its a neat item and from an old general store perhaps? The can has two areas near the top lid where you can see something was used to open the lid which dented the can a slit bit, but overall it is without dents or scratches. The paint appears to be a 9 out of 10 in my mind. Look at the pics yourself. Davenport is near Rock island and Moline IL Illinois and Bettendorf Iowa also. COnsidered the quad cities area. It is in poor condition- the spine is damaged, so the front cover is detached and the back cover is hanging on by a few threads. The pages are fragile, with a few being tattered along the edges. Illinois We have seen these in horrible condition for many hundreds of dollars but we are starting these low so everyone can get a chance. This is a series of 20 magazines in the World's Fair Series by the Jewell Halligan Company. This copy was printed in English but it was also printed in French. German and Spanish Languages and was available to those who subscribed to the magazine.at a cost of $12 a year. That is over $333 in today's money! We have all 20 issues in this series with 16 pages per magazine. We have found many copies of these listed in college libraries and museums mainly and the Library of Congress. Photo's include so many aspects of the fair. Buildings, display's, ... morestores, people. Each picture comes with a small history of the scene. We have had a hard time putting these up on E Bay because they are so interesting. We keep stopping to read! There is information on not only the display's but little bits of gossip about the fair and the construction. Also has a written article by a notable of the time including a U.S. President in the back of each. So much history here. Please note condition: We have found very little staining on the pages. Especially for their age. All have their covers. 6 of the magazines are loose from their covers, some of those covers are in two pieces. The other 14 have stable spines, although some are fragile. We see chipping on the cover edges and browning around the edges but only on the covers, see very few chips on the pages. The pages are made of a heavier paper than the covers and have a sheen. The pictures in the magazine are really sharper than my camera can make them. All are 15 1/2" wide by 11 1/2" This is a wonderful opportunity to own a rare collectible that is increasing in value! You are budding on a used halligan tool. The halligan has been changed very little in almost a hundred years! This particular bar is thought to be about 40 years old. Halligans are know by fireman to be the absolute#1 tool for a firefighter(maybe 2nd only to a charged hoseline) The halligan tool has hundreds of uses and is very tough. It can be used to force open doors. Pry open security bars, open ceilings and walls for concealed fire, sound floors, removing moldings and wood floors and much much more. The halligan is a staple of the world wide fire service. This Particular bar was was patent in June of 1971. You can look up the patent# D220900 Halligans com in many different sizes this bar is the more common length of just under 30" long from head to toe of the forks. The adz end is just over 3" Long. "Fire Officer Tool" Mini Halligan Bar, 20in. Personal Firefighting Halligan Tool
Due to a recent on-the-job injury. I am being forced out of the fire service. so up for auction is my personal tool that I carried with me during all of my jobs. It is the perfect size to be able to carry with you in addition to another tool. It is a great tool to have as a backup or even a primary tool for a nozzle man. It's great for popping doors and can be a God send you and/or your crew find yourselves in a tight spot. And you need to remodel the house to make yourself a door in the wall to get out. It is used, has a little bit of surface rust, Whis looks like it will easily clean up or the tool can be painted completely. I added reflective material on the top and bottom of the grip on the shaft(hehe. I said shaft) as seen in the picture. The reflective tape shines very bright when hit with a flashlight which is awesome if you drop ... moreyour tool in a smoke filled room as well as adding a better gripping system on the shaft(hehe) I did the grip the same way we did on all our tools at the FD. A piece of cable wrapped around the shaft and then that is wrapped with hockey tape. It's the type of grip commonly used on Halligan bars and axes in the fire service. The claw side has proved to be about the perfect size and sharpness to get in every door I have forced. I really do hate to see this go. And to be honest if it does not sell I will just hang it on the wall as a keepsake. It has never been broken. Bent, or repaired. It has provided me secondary egress on more than one occasion. And I hope it can also do the same for the fireman, EMT, or police officer who buys it. For full disclosure. I'm not 100% sure who manufactured it. What I do know is it is very well-built and very sturdy and has been my favorite tool I have ever used period. Thanks. Please contact me with any questions.
