This would be a great addition to your fire collection! This is an OLD Carins New Yorker- Leather helmet. This helmet originally belonged to a member of FDNY. It appears that after retirement. This helmet was used as a retirement piece. Structurally, this helmet is in very good condition for its age. The leather does have some alligator style cracking from its age, but is in very sound condition. The exterior of the helmet is painted white, the interior has the NYFD with the original owners name. Up for auction is a Cairns Leather N5A New Yorker Fire Helmet. The date manufactered was August 15th. 1986 and it is a size medium. This helmet is 100% ALL ORIGINAL. This helmet is much lighter and rides much lower on your heads than the new Cairns helmets made today. There are a few places where the paint has chipped and the shield holder is slightly bent. There are some initials on the earflaps that can barely be seen. I never wore this helmet on the job. I bought this helmet from a collector in New York years ago to display leather shields from my collection. Great unmolested helmet with a lot of character. Exact age of this helmet is unknown but it is pretty old. Has great old badge as shown marked Asst. Chief as well as Mc HFD. As noted this great old helmet has a lot of character including scuffs. Scratches, marring and discoloration form use and storage. Badge has cracking and peeling as shown. Brass badge holder is in overall good shape with some distortion from use and storage as shown. Helmet has no cracks or breaks. I am unsure of what type of material this helmet is made of, but does not appear to be leather or metal. Might be some sort of composite, fiberglass or plastic. Used 2002 Cairns N5A Red Leather Fire Helmet. This helmet was given to me and unfortunately I no longer have the room for it. It is used but in otherwise good condition. There are some chips/wear in the paint(show me a used helmet that doesn't) The eagle shield holder is bent in the front(still usable) and this helmet has seen fire(some) The chin strap, ear flaps, and head band are all in great condition, and the adjustment ratchet is fully functional. I cannot certify that this helmet is structurally safe, however as a firefighter, I would be comfortable wearing this helmet into a fire or IDLH. This is an unfinished project: a Cairns 5A(no impact liner) Fire Helmet. Yellow and White, with a custom hand painted helmet front, Chaplain” S.F.F.D. with chinstrap loops and chin strap. The yellow helmet has two quarters of the crown painted white. Identical to the SFFD Truck Company helmets. There is the beginning of gold on the ribs of the crown. It is a size 7 ¼-7 ¾ Large adjustable; Nomex chin strap(non-SFFD) hanging d-ring. This helmet was not completed. Nor issued, and was not worn by the SFFD Chaplain. There is no Bourkes. However, the holes are there with Bourke screws and nuts. With the beginning of Conclave in the coming weeks, I thought it was time it found a better home. Oh. Offered is this leather fire helmet Model N5A Natural used helmet made by Cairns and Brothers March 21. 1986. Listed under size on the label it says ADJ. I wear a 7 1/2 and the way it is adjusted right now it is a little large on me. The helmet is in uncleaned condition just as I purchased it. It has no chin strap or front piece but it does have the screws. Nuts and bolts for mounting one and the rings to attach a chin strap. The D ring is in place and the helmet has bourkes on the front. The label on the impact liner is present but loose, the helmet has stickers on it from the previous owner. The back has been curled down a little and the leather could use trated in that spot. On the inner liner there is two small tears in the material. Everything described can be seen in the 11 photos. Cairns 1010 Traditional style fire helmet
This auction is for a used Cairns 1010 fire helmet. The outer shell is in good condition with only minor scratches. The impact cap has been replaced with a new/unused Defender series impact cap. The helmet also has a Streamlight rubber helmet band. The helmet has flannel lining. The edge beading has been replaced. The reflective trim has been replaced with new triple trim. Reflective trim is silver/lime/silver.

It's about 8.75" interior x 8" wide. The helmet is missing one screw and nut. This helmet has definitely been used a lot. You can take alook at the photo's to see the condition. The shield needs two screws and nuts on the one side to fasten. The other side of the shield is connected. There are no cracks on the outside of the helmet. You can see the interior is torn. Old leather Cairns fire helmet with FDNY Truck 79 lieutenant front
This is a Cairns leather fire helmet that saw duty with FDNY; there are handmade markings inside indicating so. There is a metal Cairns medallion inside the crown of the helmet. But I could not find any indication of the date of issue. There is cracking in the leather in various locations. The most notable is at the bend, where there is a small gap. There are some nail heads visible on the tail of the bend. The helmet obviously has several coats of black paint. The metal front holder, as is common, is bent. Attached to the helmet and included in the auction is a leather FDNY lieutenant's front for Truck 79. It is not likely that the front actually saw service with the helmet.
