Leather Fireman Helmet NOT RESTORED OR MESSED WITH large size- between a size 7 1/4& 7 1/2 the liner shows absolutely no sweat or wear- the small sewn in label is perfect- the havelock/ neck protector is as clean as the day this was made- this was never worn the black paint is 98.8% intact the brass upper shield support is not dented or bent- and still has the original graphics the original front plate/ badge/ shield has never been filled in- as nice as you will find one you can not up grade this example this one never had a chin strap. Instead of the typical round metal disk at the inner top, this example only has a small cloth label sewn into the liner the tag says"Cairns Sanitary Cushion lining{and four lines of patent numbers} i believe this dates back to the 1950s{ or early 1960's. As ... morethey didn't change that much during that period} again.This is not restored, it has the original paint, no repairs, The shield is 100% original to the helmet and has never been removed. The helmet is complete including the rear ring. The liner is cloth and in perfect order. With a small leather pad sewn in the front dont pass it up- you just don't see these in THIS condition. Vatican Seal SFFD San Francisco Cairns Leather Fire Helmet Pope Chaplain
This is an unfinished project: a Cairns 5A(no impact liner) Fire Helmet. Yellow and White, with a custom hand painted helmet front, Chaplain” S.F.F.D. with chinstrap loops and chin strap. The yellow helmet has two quarters of the crown painted white. Identical to the SFFD Truck Company helmets. There is the beginning of gold on the ribs of the crown. It is a size 7 ¼-7 ¾ Large adjustable; Nomex chin strap(non-SFFD) hanging d-ring. This helmet was not completed. Nor issued, and was not worn by the SFFD Chaplain. There is no Bourkes. However, the holes are there with Bourke screws and nuts. With the beginning of Conclave in the coming weeks, I thought it was time it found a better home. Oh. And the two other helmets are not for sale; just had them in for the family shot. Lastly. For you Cairns experts, it is a Series“O” as indicated ... moreon the crown decal. As noted. The helmet front has“Chaplain” and“S.F.F.D. in gold, with the Vatican Seal or Coat of Arms, consistent with the seal used by the Roman Catholic Church also referred to as the Holy See. There is great history to this seal. With much symbolism of the keys, how they are placed under the papal tiara, all of which you can Wikipedia or ask your local Archbishop over an Irish Coffee. So. Offered is this leather fire helmet Model N5A Natural used helmet made by Cairns and Brothers March 21. 1986. Listed under size on the label it says ADJ. I wear a 7 1/2 and the way it is adjusted right now it is a little large on me. The helmet is in uncleaned condition just as I purchased it. It has no chin strap or front piece but it does have the screws. Nuts and bolts for mounting one and the rings to attach a chin strap. The D ring is in place and the helmet has bourkes on the front. The label on the impact liner is present but loose, the helmet has stickers on it from the previous owner. The back has been curled down a little and the leather could use trated in that spot. This auction is for a used Cairns 1010 fire helmet. The outer shell is in good condition with only minor scratches. The impact cap has been replaced with a new/unused Defender series impact cap. The helmet also has a Streamlight rubber helmet band. The helmet has flannel lining. The edge beading has been replaced. The reflective trim has been replaced with new triple trim. Reflective trim is silver/lime/silver.

This is a vintage Cairns& Brothers firefighters helmet. With an Alameda patch on the front. It is very scuffed, the visor is scuffed& scratched, no cracks. It is very dirty inside, I have no idea about how to clean it up(cloth, etc) so it is what it is. The adjustable size bands inside are cracked in spots. I do not know the history, it was found at a local estate sale. The paper label inside the helmet says it is model 660C, meets or exceeds the 1972 standards. Ther are some other letters after the 660c, that I cannot make out, the label is worn. It also has the Cairns& Brothers marks inside, as shown. Any questions, please ask, thank you! 36

It's about 8.75" interior x 8" wide. The helmet is missing one screw and nut. This helmet has definitely been used a lot. You can take alook at the photo's to see the condition. The shield needs two screws and nuts on the one side to fasten. The other side of the shield is connected. There are no cracks on the outside of the helmet. You can see the interior is torn. Old leather Cairns fire helmet with FDNY Truck 79 lieutenant front
This is a Cairns leather fire helmet that saw duty with FDNY; there are handmade markings inside indicating so. There is a metal Cairns medallion inside the crown of the helmet. But I could not find any indication of the date of issue. There is cracking in the leather in various locations. The most notable is at the bend, where there is a small gap. There are some nail heads visible on the tail of the bend. The helmet obviously has several coats of black paint. The metal front holder, as is common, is bent. Attached to the helmet and included in the auction is a leather FDNY lieutenant's front for Truck 79. It is not likely that the front actually saw service with the helmet. Antique Hamden Fire Department Aluminum Cairns Fire Helmet
You are bidding on a Antique Cairns Aluminum Fire Helmet made when they were in New York. The frontpiece letters are the early leather cut out style. And it is lettered for the Hamden Fire Department. It is original to the helmet. I have checked and I found two Hamden's one in Connecticut and one in Ohio. I have had this in my collection for over twenty years and other than dusting it. Have not done a thing to the helmet. It is in as-found as-is condition and has a very, as they say Salty look to it. It is bent. Chipped, scratched and also has a small tear in the aluminum(see photo) I can't date this helmet but would say it was in use right after the high eagle period of fire helmets. Offered here is an AUTHENTIC AND GENUINE LEATHER FIRE FIGHTERS HELMET BADGE OR SHIELD MANUFACTURED BY CAIRNS& BRO. A WELL KNOWN MAKER OF FIRE FIGHTER'S HELMETS. This helmet shield is used. And it has the name of the former company: FAIRCHILD FIRE CO. MTFD printed on the face side. On the back side there are a few tears in the leather. The front side has some scratches and wear. Please see photographs) The shield measures 4 1/2 inches wide(straight across the back) and 6 1/4 inches tall. A grass strap on the back helps mount the shield and it has the company name stamped into it. This would make a nice replacement shield for a vintage helmet that has no shield. Also. Up for grabs is a vintage Cairns& Brother model 5A leather firefighting helmet. This was made as an advertising piece for Fireman's Fund Insurance. And has a leather front with their name& logo. The condition of the leather is overall excellent, with some small areas where the red paint has chipped. This helmet was made before impact caps were standard equipment on leathers. Inside bears the Cairns trademark emblem and original label. Sanitary cushion lining has tear but is otherwise in good condition. A very nice helmet looking for a good home. Fast. Vintage antique firemans leather helmet cairns new yorker firefighter very nice
Very good condition vintage antique leather firemens new yorker helmet made by cairns bros. Clifton NJ. Good condition. The tag on the inside states Cairns Clifton NJ with an"E" on the tag at 9 oclock. The E signifies what year it was made. There may be a little confusion of what year the E stands for but a collector gave me the list below so It will be close to the year on the list. This list states 1955. 1956. So I believe it is somewhere around this date and is over 50 years old. The brass is in very good condition. The leather shell is in very good condition. There is 7 1/8" tag on the the inside of the helmet. The tag also has the number 65686 written in pen. The liner is in great condition with no burns or rips. It will be great addition to any collection. Ihave had it for over 30 years. It does have the number 1 painted ... morein white which was probably the firefighters company number. No holes from any eye shields.The front shield is original and never off the helmet. It has the original brass pins for it and the dust under the front shield will show it was never off. The shield says Pochuck FD which I believe is Vernon Township Sussex County New Jersey. Again great helmet that did not see too much fire. No holes from eye protection,brass and liner in great condition. I have 15 more helmets going off. Dont miss this one. NO RESERVE This is a real nice one. Two more old leathers going off after this one. One has a D on the tag and the other one is a 1988 white with the new style liner. These are the date codes for Cairns Leather Helmets. This was given to me by a collector and I am not 100% sure this is correct but it is close.
