A Collectable Cairns & Bros. Fire Helmet
This is the last helmet from collection of helmets. This is a Cairns and Brothers helmet with an intact inside lining and an unbroken face shield. It appears that this was a Lietenants helmet and I believe his inials were JR. And a smaller size. I have no room to display this any more, so my loss is your gain. vintage cairns leather helmet new yorker D series oldest of my collection NR ++
Here it is the last of my leathers from the collection. It is the oldest. It has the D marking on the seal making it the 4th year that Cairns was in Clifton NJ. I believe. There are some different opinion of years but one of my friends had called it right around 1953. Great old vintage cairns for any collection. Leather is in real good condition and very little wear from fire use. There is some red splattered paint drops(3) on the brim that should peel right off. There is a little white paint on the front under brim that should come right off. There is holes from a very old set of burkes that must have been on it. I say very old cause the diameter of the holes is smaller than the traditional bourkes. There are 4 hole from the various helmet shields it has worn in the last 60 years. The brass is in very good condition. The liner has been removed ... moreprior to coming to my collection but the brass ring and suspension straps are there and in good shape. The tag says Cairns and Brothers Inc. Allwood. NJ. fifteen minutes from here! Model 5A order number 5543. Again. There are 6 rivets attaching the leather badge to the front. Nice original stitching throughout all in great condition. The entire helmet appears to be made of some sort of metal. Nice original D ring for the leather strap(which is missing) on the back of the bottom of the helmet. But have to many collections and everything is spread out.There is other things I would like to purchase and need to sell. I wanted to sell this helmet and the other one under my lisitng this past weekend, but I am dragging my feet. Because I would love to keep this helmet as well as the other one. This helmet is extremely nice and is untouched. It's all original and has seen some action. The helmet has never been cleaned it's the way it's been for over 50 years. This helmet has amazing patina. The hat badge came with it as well. Very cool set and it is hard to find NYFD helmets on ebay untouched. I noticed there is a few collectors out there that just collect the helmet shields and sell the shell on ebay. I hope whom ever buys this, to keep it ... moreoriginal. You are bidding on a vintage antique fireman helmet from the defunct Ashland New Jersey(southern NJ) fire department. I have two of these fire man firemen helmets on eBay and this is for the black version. Both have seen actual use but are in pretty good condition. Each still retains the leather and cloth interior lining. And the Cairns& Brothers name plate inside. The black version has the leather front name plate on it, though it is missing the original brass attachment pins(it's being temporarily held on by two replacement pins right now, but it is original to the helmet) I will gladly combine shipping if both helmets are won by the same bidder, and look forward to getting these into the hands of a local collector and have them proudly displayed. The helmet has a texture to it but I don't know what it is.the surface of the helmet on top and sides. Front and back is not smooth. Lieutenant's Fireman's Helmet with Shield Cairns & Brothers Size 6 1/2 to 8
This auction is for a Cairns& Brothers Fireman's helmet for a Lieutenant. I was told this came out of the Wichita. Ks Fire Dept years ago? It does have quite a few scratches and scruffs with some paint loss. Plastic face shield is pretty hard to see out of. This is either a very hard plastic or Kevlar. It has the number 206 and the name Burnett on it. With the shield down this is about 17" long, over 11" wide and 8" tall. Webbing is still intact but needs to be repositioned. It fits size 6 1/2 to 8. I wear 7 1/8 and it fit fine. Beautiful piece of history!

vintage cairns leather war baby fire helmet not nw yorker or n5a NR
Up for bid is my final leather cairns helmet from my collection and it is the oldest. It is a cairns"War Baby" Leather helmet. As you can see from the tag it does not have a letter on it so that means it is prior to 1947. made in the plant in Clifton New Jersey which is 15 minutes from my house. The helmet appears to have never been painted. There is wear all over the helmet from being almost 70 years old. The liner and chin strap are in good condition and it has the size 7 3/8" written on the inside. These helmets were designed and produced during the1940's and their production run was not very long. The smaller size of the helmet was Cairns' answer to reduce the weight of fire helmets during that era. The last of my entire leather collection.
