Civil War Brass Belt Buckle Keeper I give a very good descriptions of Items and take many good close-up photos. So due to some bad experiences on Ebay buyers I do not except returns Please read the whole listing and feel free to ask any questions. I will be more than happy to answer them. This will be the last of the listings of this collection. I have sold off most of all of it, except a few things that I am going to keep for now may list more in the future. I was set up as a Dealer at the Nashville Tenn. Civil War Show back in 2000. A young man come to my table and asked If I bought Civil War Items. I asked what he had. He told me that he had a box load of things out in his car. He said the box was given to him by his Uncle, I asked where his Uncle had lived, he told me that his Uncle had been born and lived near Gettysburg Pa. And hunted ... moreall over the private property, very little was park land at the time. He told me that his uncle found a lot of the items on top of the ground, and walked the plowed fields and just picked it up. It is a shame he did not keep any records, but back in those days the stuff was everywhere. So we worked out a deal for the whole box of relics. As soon as I returned home I laid it all out on a table and took 2 pics of most of it could not fit all on table and that was still in the days of the 35mm film camera, so some of the pics did not turn out and I was not able to do very good close ups. 2 canteens loads of bullets of many different cal. Buttons both Union and Confederate, 2 pieces of wood with a bullet stuck in it, cannon ball fragments, and many more items that I will be listing over the next couple of weeks. Most can be seen in the last 2 photos of the listing, along with the date the photos were taken. Due to medical bills I am forced to sell off some of the collection. Vintage Tooled leather Belt w Sterling Silver Buckle Keeper Tip 34-36"
Beautiful tooled leather belt measures 34" for wear but can be made larger by adding one or two more punch holes in the belt. In other words. The belt is 35 1/2" in length. Belt measures 1 1/4" and the ends are 3/4" at each end. The leather is in very good condition for vintage but does have an area on the tab end where it has rubbed from use. The leather does not have rot BUT NEEDS TO BE OILED desperately and should probably be reglazed to keep this belt in top condition. There is also some darkening on the leather at the tip. Seriously NICE work! The Sterling buckle. Tip and keeper are all in excellent condition with a very heavy oxidation or patina. NO damage. The buckle measures approximately 2" wide x just under 2" height. The total weight is probably close to 30 grams but I will not take the tip off to ... moreweigh this. US COAST GUARD OFFICER'S BELT BUCKLE FOR SWORD BELT, MISSING KEEPER
This is an interesting Officer's Sword Belt Plate Buckle. But it is missing the"keeper" piece that it should hook into. I believe that it is an early pattern for the Coast Guard, based on the chain that goes around the eagle and anchor in the center, but I am not sure, as it is neither the standard Coast Guard nor the standard Naval design! The buckle is unmarked, and retains most of its original gilt. It is the standard size: 2 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/16th inches tall. It came with a group of WWI era items, and that is the time to which I would date it. It looks unworn, in excellent or better condition. Payment is expected within three days of close of auction. Civil War Union "US" Belt Buckle- Arrow Hooks- w/Keeper- Dug Cold Harbor, VA
Dug in the vicinity of Cold Harbor. Virginia, this is a nice example of a Union"US" oval belt buckle. It still retains its' hooks, as well as nearly all of its' lead backing, and is a very attractive plate overall. It has a dark green patina. The keeper was dug nearby, but was not found with the buckle. It has a brownish patina, and has a slight body bend, but is not a bad looking piece either. Cold Harbor was the site of two fierce battles, one in 1862, and the latter in 1864. This pair of relics would make a nice addition to any collection.

BLACK BUFF LEATHER WAIST BELT WITH BRASS KEEPER C. 1856– 1865 In the book American Military and Naval Belts 1812- 1902 by R. Stephen Dorsey the following is noted on page 83 and 84 as follows. This is the design I believe of this buckle. Belt and keeper offered for auction. From Dorsey’s Historical Notes the follow is noted: While it appears that the standing loop waist belt continued to be manufactured during the war. meaning Civil War) both in black buff and finished leather, Todd(Ref.94) indicates that he felt it was introduced into the army“about 1856” Whatever its date of introduction, it was produced in great quantity and has survived today with many specimens ... morein like new condition. The color as noted in the book by Dorsey is a Black buff on exterior, white buff on the interior surface. This belt has a blackish brown finish as photo shows. Crazing or ruffness is present on the outside to the touch and the white buff is quite smooth on the inside. Due to its age the belt is stiff but flexible. I did not remove the buckle from the belt to photograph. It appears to have been attached from the beginning. Very tight on one side of the arrowhead hooks on the belt buckle. Special fittings on the belt are as follows– A sheet brass keeper with brass jaws is permanently affixed to one tip of the belt by four folded brass prongs as is this one offered for auction. For super-detailed pictures. This is a complete. Non-dug, Authentic Civil War 1851 Officer's Sword Belt Plate Buckle with matching Clasp(keeper) all in fantastic condition. Very little wear and nearly all original detail is impeccable— you would be hard pressed to find one in better condition! It may also be called a" Union Officer Eagle" Belt Plate model 1851. See the high-resolution photos(link above) I took of it using 2 different cameras and with/without flash to bring out the details as best as possible. I have not attempted any cleaning aside from rinsing the dust off with water prior to taking these pictures. And the brass retains its chocolate-color patina that has formed over the years. Tip and keeper. Trophy buckle was won in 1998 by my ex husband and I just ran across it the other day while cleaning. Graciously donated for award by Casino West in Fallon, Nevada. I’m starting it at a low start price with no reserve! I’m throwing in the Justin size 32 leather belt because the tip is attached. But it's not in that great of shape. Has been stored in a drawer all curled up. Buckle measurements are 2.5 inches wide by 3 inches long. Belt tip measures 1.25 inches wide by approximately 1.25 inches long. Keeper measures 1.5 inches long by almost.5 inches ... morewide. Previously worn but in very good shape. Has not been previously cleaned. There are three pieces of authentic turquoise– two on the buckle and one on the belt tip. This buckle set would also be great used on a horse’s headstall.
