Vintage Military M Klein & Sons Vietnam Era Tree Climbing Gear Spurs Belts
This is a vintage set of tree climbing gear that was supposedly used by a Marine Corps sniper in Vietnam. I cannot vouch for the truth in this. But he had no reason to lie to me either. What we have are the left and right spur that definitely needs new straps. They are both stamped 16 M.Klein& Sons. They will need new padding as well. One belt is definitely military. But has no markings other than S1.69(very hard to read) stamped in black ink on the belt. The second belt has a brass manufacturer's tag that says Mine Safety Appliance Company, Pittsburgh, PA 1949. This is for the vintage late 70s pieces shown. Includes a climbing gear belt and bag and 2 Buckingham Bell System lineman spikes. The attached additional belt is marked Klein and Sons. They appear to be in good working order but please judge by the photos. I'm not sure how the judge the size- but it is adjustable. The belt is clearly marked not for line work. It is a safety belt. Vintage Bashlin pole climbing spikes and gear 2 belts tree climbing utilities
Up for sale we have a set of older Bashlin pole spikes. With a matching Bashlin belt, the blue green one is the Bashlin. Also there is a Atlas belt included, its the red and yellow belt, both belts look to be in very good condition. The leather straps on the spikes should be checked before using, as there showing some age, there not broken, just dirty and have some cracking on them. I'm not familiar with this type of equipment, so if there's anything you want to know about the gear ask and I will try to tell you. The spikes themselves look to be in good condition, they measure 17 1/2" from the top to the bottom of the foot rest. The spikes are stamped Grove City, PA. Any questions please ask, I will reply. Linesman's Pole/Tree climbing equipment. It has had a lot of use. But is very heavy duty and has lots of life left. The wide padded belt has a Stringer name plate and a date of 1/77. The size I believe adjusts out to a 42/44. I am a 36/38 and there are four holes remaining. Belt has a leather pliers pouch attached and four attached leather loops for tools/equipment. Also there are four removable leather loops which snap to small metal rings on the belt. The lanyard is Buckingham and a date of 1988. Adjusts from 4 to 6-1/2 feet. Since I was new to the field. While on the climb I spent time being careful so I didn't kill myself or put myself into a situation I couldn't get out of. The saw lanyard was used to hang my hand saw from. A chainsaw was not used on any of these climbs. The rope hasn't been pulled all the way out of the original bag ... moreyet.
