Requested by the many lumber camps in the area. Originally his tools were called Trojan Tools. But he won a first prize at the Worlds Fair in St. Louis and changed the name to Champion Tools. In 1906. Seven logging ... moretool companies, including the Champion Tool& Handle Works, merged and became the American Logging Tool Company which eventually, in 1911, moved all manufacturing to the Champion site in Evart. This is a great old antique tool out of the woods of North Idaho. You still find a few of these around. On a logging truck or in the log yards to move a single log or cedar pole around that's in the wrong place. Most everything in the woods and log yards is mechanized now. They used to be a necessary tool on the farm too. This peavey has long been retired. The handle has checked and splintered some and it's ready for display. Vintage Leach OSH KOSH Peavy Logging Tool - Cant hook - Log Roller
This is a Leach Company in Oshkosh. Wisconsin logging roller. It is also called a Cant Hook and it is also called a Peavy Hook. This is a model M 15. I went on the web site and looked an they had these tools running all the way up to#14. It was about $168.00. This one has a new nut and bolt replacing the old. I found this in a garage sale. I have been in the buying and selling business for years, I am 65 myself and this was the first time I had the opportunity to by this tool. I could not pass it up. Then I realized that I don't intend to ever do any log rolling, so here you go. The guy who sold it to me was older than I and had a lot of specialized tools. He said that the wood may not look that good but this thing had a lot of log rolling left in it. I have to take his word on that I have never rolled a log in my life except for some ... moretrees that we had to cut down in our yard once and we just cut them us into something we could handle. This is still a good tool as it is but it is also a good thing to hand on the wall and start conversations.

The head with a piece of broken-off handle is nearly 7 1/2 inches long. Polls are approximately 2 1/2 inches tall and 7/8 inch wide. Neither has any visible maker's markings. Up for auction is a short length of used chain. With a hook on both ends. The chain with hooks measures about 4 feet from hook to hook. Each link is about 2 1/2" long and 1 1/8" wide, with inside width of about 1/2" Chain is somewhat dirty and could use a cleaning, and a few links have slight bend. The hook one end has PHOENIX on one side and 5/16 on the other. The shinier hook has 1/4 written on one side, with some symbols. Weight about 3 lbs, 6 ounces. This is a neat industrial décor item. 31 1/2" point to point fully open. 4" fully closed. 26 3/8" long to where the links attach, 32 3/4" from top of hanging ring to very base of hooks. 15 3/4" to the widest part closed. They are older heavy duty ones weighing close to 22 lbs before packing. Some rust but very solid and sound. the one tip has a snag on the end of it that needs hit with a file or grinder. Weakest part is the hanging ring.
