Circular Sawmills and Their Efficient Operation. By Stanford J. Lunstrum, originally published by the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Atlanta, Ga, 1972. 5½ ... morex 8½ paperback, 86 pages. Please note that this is a photoduplicated reproduction of the original. It has been reduced to 94% of its original size(it is six percent smaller than the original size) The accompanying images were scanned from a reprint. Not the original. This manual was written for circular sawmill operators who recognize the need for producing the maximum yield of well manufactured lumber in the shortest possible time. It does not attempt to cover all aspects of sawmill operation; it is concerned only with the first and most important step- primary sawing- and all the mechanical components that affect the primary sawing function. Through the use of this manual. Many circular sawmill operators can increase the efficiency of their sawing operation. Many operators could realize an increase of 10 percent or more in lumber output by improving the accuracy of their cutting. For example, an operator with a log input of 5 million board feet per year could realize an additional 500,000 board feet through improved efficiency. This means not only substantial savings in timber resources but also a lowering of per-unit cost and consequently higher profits for the operation. Approximately 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" The Golden Age of postcards. Marked by the"divided back" began on March 1, 1907. The address had to be written on the right side of the back of the postcard while the left side was reserved for writing messages. At this time in American history the postcard hobby became a public addiction. Publishers printed millions of cards in this era. Most postcards were printed in Germany, the world leader in lithographic processes. Then at the height of this ... morecountry wide mania, WWI began. It brought with it. A crash in the hobby as the supply of postcards from Germany came to an end. At this time, English and U.S. publishers seized the opportunity to fill the gap with their products, many of which were of lower quality. This coupled with the recurrent influenza epidemics, and WWI war shortages all had an adverse affect on the American postcard hobby. Then. The postcard view is now highly sought after by many institutions(including the Smithsonian) and individuals. As it serves as a historical record of the past. Be it the view of a town main street, the local church, school, roadside attraction or the countryside, the post card mirrors the way our parents, grandparents and even we, once lived. Captured in these olden day images are views of people in the dress of the day, often at work, at play, at school or at church. The postcard o

Very nice real photo postcard. Written on back in pencil it says Logging Wash. However if you look closely at bottom right it says 1596 Crellin MD. It's faint, but legible. Card has a divided back and stamp box says Kodak Paper- Place Stamp Here. Crellin is in Garrett Co. and was built as a company town known for its lumbering& coal mining. Nice scene. Almost a bird's eye view showing town with logging pond. Number of buildings, houses, a church. Area seems to be surrounded by a forest of pines. Very lightly bumped corners. There is a half circle crease on the right side. Back has old pencil notation at top along with the words Logging WASH. Photo quality is good to excellent. Good contrast. Lots of details. Image is a little fuzzy along bottom edge. Surface of photo very good to excellent. Very clean. The dark spotted area in ... morethe sky to the right is part of the photo. If you have any questions. Written when the legendary political philosopher was 64 years old. It consists of over 2 pages of text, plus a nice wood engraved portrait(4x5 inches in size) of the great man. The piece was written by George Towle, with the notation that“Some of the facts in this article were supplied to the writer by Mr. Mill. It says. In part: Few men have had a larger—though it has been an almost unobtrusive—influence upon English thought. During the past quarter of a century, than the distinguished man whose name stands at the head of this article. Happily his lot has been cast in an era of English politics when the philosophical tone of his mind, and the bold independence of his opinions, have had a comparatively fair field. In this work of unsettling old foundations. John Stuart Mill has had no slight share. It is within the memory of men, under the middle age, that the doctrines which he propounded with a calm and courageous reasoning, which had its reward in results, were regarded with holy horror, not by Tories only, but by Whigs, Liberals, men who now sit high in a household ministry. Offered for auction is a vintage correspondence letterhead from Chicago Mill and Lumber Co. of Chicago Illinois. Letter is dated October 9. 1912. Signed by F. Klappsoth? Free shipping. On Oct-17-12 at 15:43:11 PDT. Seller added the following information:
Steelton Planing Mill and Lumber Co. Steelton Pennsylvania Letterhead advertising envelope with a large return address. From April 26, 1892. A splendid envelope from the days when communication was by the mails- including local companies like the Steelton Planing Mill. That letterhead was an advertising tool. Clean, toned, 6" x 3 3/8" no contents. Advertising was always in print in the 1890s, so all companies, including this one wanted their name out there. Here is a local manufacturer of lumber, doors, sashes, blinds, flooring, mouldings, and much more selling during the Gilded Age. The envelope is classic- the 2-cent deep crimson Washington postage stamp, Scott Catalog 220, hand-canceled. Mailed to a lawfirm in Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania- A marvelous Legal industry, Harrisburg area and Lewisburg memento. Interesting- ... moreSteelton Planing used the new'Lewisburg' rather than the obsolete'Lewisburgh' spelling- in the 1890s the Post Office attempted to simplify spellings by dropping the'h' at the end of town names like Lewisburgh- some towns agreed- the most famous of those who refused was Pittsburgh- after 1912 the Post Office gave up. The envelope is not folded, no dogears, cleanly opened along the left-hand edge but with a chip at the bottom left corner. A backstamp in Lewisburg on the reverse, the next day. A remarkable period piece and a splendid Letterhead envelope from a Century and more ago. Remarkable history here. This should be framed or part of a collage. We are liquidating our lifelong stamp and paper accumulation- no idea what's there- this is an example. We do try to describe them correctly- We want you back as a customer- hundreds of repeat customers. Splendid for the historian. Scholar, writer, collector. We combine S&H on multiple purchases. Buy with confidence- over 20.000 satisfied Internet buyers can't be all wrong! Don't let this one get by you- this is a marvelous find.

I harvested this log a couple years ago. Didn't get it sawed up and have since sold my mill. This is a exceptional log for a mesquite. It is around 7 and a half foot long and about 17 inches in diameter. It is one of the straighter mesquite logs to be found for that length. I have quite a few more stashed away if a local saw miller don't get them from me. THIS SALE IS FOR LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. You arrange transportation Or I could deliver within a reasonable distance for reasonable fee. When thinking of reasonable consider the cost of fuel. If I have need to go to the area it will be considered. My Phone is 254 764 4275.Thanks
