NimbleGen Hybridization System 4 For sale- a NimbleGen Hybridization System 4. It says in smaller print that it was actually built by BioMicro Systems. And then Roche came along and bought both companies. So I have used Roche in the title mainly for the search engines. But was then surprised to find their logo on the back label. The unit is in very good to excellent physical condition. When I got it there was a screw taped to the top which is rarely a good sign. The screw fits up under the front left corner and holds that side of the front control panel in place. I only mention it because when I tried to put it back it didn’t really feel like it caught on anything although it did stay in place for now. So I was pleasantly surprised when I powered the thing up and it appears to be functional. The set point was 42 degrees C. It took it about ... more10 minutes or so to go from room temp to the set point. And as is typical of heating devices it actually went past the set point. Up as high as 43.0 at one point, before settling back down to 42. I couldn’t find a picture of one of these on the web. So I have no idea if the module attached on the left is an accessory item or part of the normal Nimblegen System 4. It has an outboard power supply which certainly makes it seem like an add on. But then again there is an AC outlet on the back of the Nimblegen that would appear to be just for that. The only thing that I didn’t feel entirely positive about is that on that left module is a button that says Mix Mode Press and Hold to Start. So I pressed and held and I couldn’t see that anything happened. But as there are no slides or other samples or whatever this thing is supposed to be holding I guess not much mixing can take place. That is the extent of my testing and NO warranty is offered. However. IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it. I set the heat to high and it slowly started to heat up. It took about 20 minutes for the device to heat up from 26C to 73C. The plate felt hotter than the temperature was reading on the temp rod. When checked with another device. The temperature of the rod seems to be off by about 6C which is probably due to the whole rod not being exposed to the heat, but I am not sure.
