Precision Steel Machinists Square (6” inside blade length) with Wooden Case
For your consideration is this all steel precision machinists square with a wooden case for protection. The blade is 1-5/16” wide. 6” long on the inside, and 7” long on the outside edge. The beam is 1-1/16” wide, 9/16” thick, 3-5/16” long on the inside, and 4-1/4” long overall. The only marking on the square is‘I believe’ just an old owner’s name, though it is very well done. This square is in very good condition, as is the wooden case(though there where rubber washers on both sides of the case were the blade goes, to help the case sit flat, one is missing, but it is not a big problem, if you want the case to sit perfectly flat, just set it on the side with the washer) otherwise the case is a little dirty, but it is solid. Brown and Sharpe Precision Steel 14" Master Square No 540 with Original Sheathe
Brown and Sharpe Machinist's Squares are used in visual checks of parts for squareness and to position one item perpendicular to another. True 90° angles inside and outside. Hardened And Precision Ground Edges. Beams and Blades are lapped for straightness and parallelism, making this SQUARE a cut above the rest. I believe that is what the No 540 designates. Not size but quality. Blade length is measured from inner edge of beam to end of blade(13 3/4 inches) Beam measures 7 inches plus 1/2 inch lead. An identification(Plt 38)is scribed on the beam& could be removed. The square has an accuracy of.0009 of an inch when measured on a DEA. Offering a Lufkin Rule No. 166 machinist hardened precision square that is in good condition. There are a few minor stains on one side as shown in the photos. It comes in a custom wood box that is marked Brown and Sharpe. But it fits properly in the box. The dimensions of the handle are 3 1/2" by 7/8" by 1/2" thick.
