I have been the original owner of this solder station. I was soldering some connectors last week when suddenly the pencil lost heat. I let it cool. Turned it back on, the pencil got hot for about 30 seconds than cooled off. The unit powers on, the transformer supplies power the potentiometer works but i think the heater or heater temp controller have gone bad. I had to buy a new pencil to get me by- this was an awesome solder station and the temp control was amazing. If you know how to inexpensively fix this solder station- make a good offer and its yours! Up for bids is the Weller EC 4000 Electronic Control Soldering Station. The unit is in fair condition. It does work. I plugged it in and the pencil did heat up. The LED readout works and it is adjustable. But I did no further testing. The blue plastic housing has several melted areas. Some severe, but none really goes thru into the electronics within. The soldering pencil is the correct type EC 1301, it shows significant use, but it is still useable and replacement tips are available from on line vendors. The AC cord is in good condition, it does have a few burn marks from the soldering pencil, but overall, it is still OK. The EC 1301 cord is also in nice shape-it has no burn marks.
