Vintage Pair Rola 12" Field coil speakers 250 and 5k ohms (KEI 64)
For your consideration. A vintage pair of Rola field coil or electro-static drivers pulled from a Hammond tone cabinet. I believe these speakers to be 1954 vintage from the EIA codes. This pair was part of a 4x12 speaker cabinet that contained two Hammond tube amps as well. I have those tube amps as well as the other pair of speakers listed in other auctions. This auction contains one 250 ohm and one 5k ohm speaker. One speaker has a small hole in the cone. Both speakers have some surface rust but otherwise are in good shape. I have not tested these speakers other than measuring their resistance with a digital multi meter. Actual measurements can be seen in the pictures in pencil on the magnet housing. This is a precision Spectra Potentiometer with 3 terminal(voltage divider) And is rated at 5k Ohms. It is a Model 830-544. There are 2 stickers on the side with the markings EMHG 50. And the 2nd sticker is marked C3963. I do not know what these idenifications stand for. The physical size- Body: Just over 1- 3/4 inches in diameter x 1-3/16" thick. Shaft: 3/4 inch above the body. The gold terminals do have a bit of solder on them. It comes nut and internal tooth lockwasher. This is a vintage potentiometer that still works. I get the readings of 5.00k(4.97k ohms with least amount of rotation) 0.00k(0.02k ohms with the least amount of rotation. I have measure several potentiometers with my digital volt ohm meter, so I believe my readings to be very close to the actual ohm values. This would normally be used as a plate to line out transformer however HS-54 is a little limited power-wise at 10dBm. however there are two alternate uses. 1) as a plate to network transformer in a pre-amp with EQ/filter network application i.e. from a tube mic pre to a passive 600 ohm network followed by makeup gain 2) as a magical mic input to preamplifier transformer. on turning this transformer around- transformers are non-directional. you can feed into ... morethe"secondary" and step UP to the higher impedance"primary" so here we have some interesting applications. 2a) older passive ribbon mics"like" low input impedances and this transformer is heavily shielded with Triad's P-5 shielding spec. three nickel alloy shields interleaved with two heavy coppershading rings to give 95 dB reduction in pickup" you certainly have a well shielded transformer for bringing in low level signals to be amplified. But I am uncertain which manufacturer this represents. They are sealed in an maroon medium and measure 5/8" long by 3/16" diam. I found these resistors about 30 years ago while cleaning out a scientific laboratory. They had been used. But the wire leads had been desoldered and some were shortened. I kept them thinking I might have some use for them, but have finally decided that they are surplus to my needs. They have been tested and easily passed the tests.
