For your consideration- Very nice Hurd Super Caster rod and reel level wind bait cast combo made in Detroit Michigan just after World War II. This fine example has the classi c trademark walnut checkered grips. The guides and wraps are in great shape and the metal rod is approximately 34 inches long and has 2 guides and the tip. The walnut fore-grip and reel are 10" long making the total length of this unique combo 44 inches. The reel is stamped on the bottom serial# 70918A. The reel is in very nice overall condition and everything on the reel functions as it should. There is a nice warm patina on the walnut wooden handle grips. Vintage& classic. Two-piece CUSTOM SURF SPINNING ROD of nine& one half(9 1/2) feet OAL, still in very good overall condition, from back in the 1990s we'd guess based on style& materials used. Two-piece Custom Surf Rod measures approx. 118 1/2" OAL when assembled, with 60" upper section slip-fitting into joint on the 62" lower section of course. The Black rubber"snub" butt on bottom of the 25" grip& reel seat section features black, EVA Foam grips of approx. 12" 6" with 5 1/2" anodized alloy reel seat in between. Reel seat has alloy reel foot"shoes" and opens to hold most any large Spin Reel foot up to about 3 1/2" OAL with twin locking rings below for secure hold. The Rod itself is composed of hollow, brown fiberglass of full 1" dia. above the foregrip and ... moretapering to approx. 1/8" dia. at tip. Probbaly built on a vintage Fenwick blank of the era, this Surf Rod was designed to offer great strength& casting distance without the extra weight of solid glass to tire you out when surf casting and standing in the shore break all day after Stripers and/or Blues.See Photos) Guides are white ceramic rings on double-side, A-frame braced feet, with orange wraps having yellow& brown accents on chocolate brown surface finish. The Johnsons always"felt like" a better made reel. heavier and sturdier looking. This model, The Century" model 100a, features a double grip handle, a drag knob on top of the reel, and one feature that was ahead of it's time. an anti-reverse lever that allows you to flip the rod upside down and use the reel as a left hand cranking underspinner!
