The previous owner was an entomologist who lived and worked in parts of Africa(mainly Tanzania and Kenya) for several years in the 1980's. While in Africa. ANTIQUE METAL 4 SLICE JEWEL TOASTER PAT. DEC 12, 1911 USE ON OLD WOOD COOKSTOVE
We have for your viewing and bidding pleasure a very old antique bread toaster. In 40 years of collecting and dealing antiques this is the only toaster of this type that we have seen or been able to obtain. On the top center in embossing it has JEWEL TOASTER PAT. DEC. 12. 1911. The toaster is made out of light metal. On each top corner it has a painted black wood knob. Turning this knob brings out the mechanism which holds a slice of bread. Then you swing it back in and it goes by the main body of the center of the toaster. There are 4 of these to make 4 slices of toast. This is the type of toaster that would of set on the cooking surface of the old time coal and wood burning cookstoves. The toaster is in good condition with its natural aged metal patina. At the base the toaster measures 7 ½” by 7 ½” At the top it measures 5 ½” ... moreby 5 ½” The toaster stands 5 ¾” high on the body and 7 ¼” high to the top of the knobs.
