It sold well and after a number of editions the maps were changed. This is a most desirable and interesting map since it clearly depicts the Island of California. A cartographic misconception which lasted until 1720- this map was'accurate' in 1715 when'Geographie Universelle' was first published, but by the time of the 1752 edition this cartography was about 30 years out of date. The map names the North American regions of: Labrador. Newfoundland, Canada or New France, Acadie, New Mexico, Florida, as well as noting Charlestown, James Town, New York, Boston, St. Augustine. The Long Island Railroad traveled to Greenport. The New York& New Haven RR extended from the Harlem Railroad and traveled north past New Haven to Bridgeport Connecticut and ultimately was to form the route to Boston. The Harlem Railroad was in operation from New York City to Somers Town and was to be opened to Dover Plains in 1848.
