Stunning Antique Wood Pedestal Base Architectural Post Piece ? Shabby White
Stunning Antique Wood Pedestal Base Architectural Post Piece? Shabby White I listed this one previously. And sadly, the buyer never paid. Please only bid if you plan on paying if you win- to do otherwise just hurts us all. This listing is for a round- what appears to be a post piece to me( that is oh-so-shabby vintage cool. It's a very old round piece that looks like it may have once been part of a column? Made of wood, it has fancy scrolly decorations on the side that appear to have been applied onto the wood. I don't know what they are made of for sure, but they have a very chalky, gesso-y feel and look to me. The piece measures 6 9/16" diameter on one end, and 7" diameter on the other end- it spreads out a little wider toward the bottom on that end. It stands 5" tall. It weighs 2 1/4 lbs. You can see that the piece ... moreis hollow in the center, with a piece of wood support in the middle of either side. The piece is in excellent solid and sturdy condition structurally- it's totally solid and sturdy, with loooooooots of rustic wear from age. As I'm showing in several of my photos, there's lots of chips to the wood around the edges- the two on the smaller end actually look like made cuts to me- not chips- could it have been from how/where it was attached? The larger side has smaller chips that do actually look like chips, though. The wood is dark on the outside, with lighter spots and spots to almost black. There's lots of wear and chipping to the white decorations- see my photos, I'm showing all sides. I have to laught, though- because it all just works for this beauty- it's a lovely shabby piece. There's scratches, scrapes, dings, divots, chips and other body nicks. There's cracks that do not move when you push them. The white decoration has a dark brown finish, or remnant of a finish( that can be seen in lots of spots- especially the deeper areas. It's dirty, and could use a good cleaning- I have not cleaned it in any way. All that being said, I wouldn'

The corners are dovetailed. As can be seen in the photos. It has a metal post running down the middle of it. It measures approximately 61 ¼” x 41 ½” x 12” There are 7 rows of 12 cubicles, making a total of 84. The labels on it show cities in Texas starting with Sadler and ending with Sweeny. I do not have a scale to give you an accurate weight. I can tell you that it can be lifted by two men. I would estimate that it weighs between 125-150 pounds, but that is just a guess. The bank stands approximately 6.5" tall and 5" at the base. The letter alignment code to open the door is stated on the bottom. Opens smoothly. In super condition but the glass panel on the brass opening is dirty and there are a few scratches on the wood. There is a small ding at one edge spot(see close-up photo) Overall. Antique Wood Newel Post Old estate find. This is an old turned wood newel post that would have been at the bottom of a staircase or part of a railing. Solid turned wood with nice architectural detail. It is painted an old mustard color and there is wear to the paint and some edges of the wood as you would expect from an old piece. Maple dovetail joinery on this desk top index card tray. Bottom appears to be made of Oak. I found this in an old abandoned furniture factory in Wisconsin. I only wiped it down with a damp cloth to remove the saw dust. Could still use more thourogh cleaning. Has minor surface and age realated wear marks. Very minor. The feet pads on bottom have been removed and sure you could find some at a Office depot or hardware store. Measures 17 1/2 inches in length by 6 inches in width and 4 inches tall. the side rails are 1 3/4 tall. Inside is 5 inches wide. Probably a 5x3+ index card.

The box appears to have been hand made by one person and later hand carved by someone else. The top and bottom(Bottom partially) are carved and lightly engraved with desert scenes. The top also has figures and a Moroccan style arch. The front is carved with the numbers one through nine in roman numerals and with the text: The Wanderer. Memories, England 1942, North Africa 1942-44" The opening mechanism appears to be broken and glued to keep it from working. Only the bottom side hidden compartment and the lid operate. Here is a great relief carving in solid wood of the famous Sioux chief/ medicine man Sitting Bull. All I know about it is that the former owner's grandfather picked it up in the 1940s at a trading post on a road trip through northern California. It is marked MTB who is assumed to be a Native carver.
