Tamalpais, California. Mt. Tamalpais is the highest peak in the Marin Hills. Which are part of the Northern California Coast ranges. The majority of the mountain is contained in protected public lands, including Mount Tamalpais State Park and Muir Woods National Monument. The sepia rendering may be an inn or hotel. SOUVENIR CHINA, MT. HOOD, OREGON CITY, OREGON (WHEELOCK, JONROTH??)
This 6-1/2 inch bowl. 1-1/2 inches deep, is a souvenir of Mt. Hood, Oregon. It is a German import, probably by one of many souvenir china importers of the early 1900’s, featuring a colorful picture of Mt. Hood with a forest in the foothills. Mt. Hood is the highest mountain in Oregon(over 11.200 feet) and the fourth-highest in the Cascade Range. It is considered the Oregon volcano most likely to erupt, though based on its history, an explosive eruption is unlikely. The bowl is bordered in pink. With blue flowers and gold cartouches. Massachusetts-The hotel was built and 1900 and burned down in 1929- The colorful little item is very ornate and pictures the massive hotel building and reads: Mt. Tom Summitt House Holyoke, Mass. on the front and is marked"Wheelock Dresden Germany" on the bottom- Great vintage item from an important lost landmark- These vintage Wheelock/ Jonroth style travel souvenirs are so popular with collectors-The item is in great condition with only light wear with one teeny tiny chip on the front upper lip that is barely seen but no other cracks or paint loss-Here is some history on the hotel: According to popular folklore. Mount Tom takes its name from ... moreRowland Thomas, a surveyor who worked for the settlement of Springfield, Massachusetts in the 1660s. Thomas supposedly named Mount Tom after himself while his fellow surveyor working on the opposite side of the Connecticut River, Elizur Holyoke, gave his name to Mount Holyoke. The Mount Tom Hotel was constructed on the summit of Mount Tom in 1897, but it burned down three years later. Subsequently rebuilt, it burned again in 1929 and was never rebuilt; in 1902 the property became the first parcel to become the Mount Tom State Reservation. Ruins of the old hotel foundations are still visible today. In 1933 the Civilian Conservation Corps assisted with the construction of reservation structures and park roads; their work also remains visible today. This is an ORIGINAL item.
