Up for sale is a Vintage Elkhart Brass MFG. CO. Chrome& Brass Fan Fire Hose Nozzle With 3" Adapter. This nozzle and adapter looks to be in good condition. These have been looked at by a fire department but not tested. These where found in a barn at a estate moving sale. I'm selling these as they where found. On the nozzle some of the chrome is coming off the top of it as seen in the pictures. It does fully adjust up and down for spray size. The nozzle measures 5 1/4" tall by 4 7/8" across the top with a 2" I.D. on the bottom. The adapter fits a 3" hose and reduces down to 2" to fit the nozzle. They both show signs of use but are both neat items that will be a neat addition to a collection or as a decor item. They say pictures are worth a thousand words. Antique Vintage 30 in Fire Hose Underwriter’s Playpipe 1.75 inch Nozzle With Tip
These tapered pipes were used on the ends of fire hose so the fire personnel could better hold the hose and direct(play) the water. With development of smaller adjustable nozzles. The playpipes were then used primarily to test water supplies, as their tapered shape produces a laminar waterflow that allows a direct gallon per minute flow measurement using a pitot tube. This playpipe is corded with red marlin(water resistant coated twine) The marlin is faded and has lost almost all the red color and is now a light gray. The cord is in fair to good condition with ten small abraded spots but the cord is not cut all the way through. No unravel. The picture shows an abraded spot. Good threads, no dents. Up for auction is a chrome Akron playpipe with a Turbojet nozzle. The playpipe inlet is 2.5" NH NS NST(national standard fire hose thread) and the discharge plus turbojet fog nozzle is 1.5" NH NS NST. The Turbojet adjusts from 120 to 250 GPM then flush. The closed valve did not leak when I blew air into it. The valve handle will stay up and is not loose like some of the other playpipes that are on eBay. I have sold about a half dozen of these and all the handles including this one have had cracks in them but they still hold the nozzle firmly. This is the last one I have. The teeth still spin and it is only missing one tooth. This one has scratches from normal use. 1917 ELKHART FIRE HOSE NOZZLE 3 PIECE WRAPPED BASE LEATHER STRAPS
Offering a patent dated August 7. 1917 Elkart fire hose nozzle. This is a 2 piece nozzle. The top can be screwed off from the base. Nice Elkhart heart and elk logo. Measures about 16 inches high. Base portion is wrapped in some kind of red material to ensure a better grip. As you can see in the fourth picture, one area is broken off; it is the portion that connects one leather to the base. Original patina with wear from a lot of obvious use. Leather straps are drying but still have a little bit of suppleness. The nozzle unscrews in 2 places: the very top and the portion just above the upper portion of the straps. Therefore, it is a 3 part nozzle. MINNESOTA Engraved on the bottom Measures approx. 12" tall 2 5/8" outside diameter base. 2 1/2" inside diameter and a 3/4" hole on top It is in good vintage condition with normal wear from use. Time and storage. No cracks, some small dents and a patina look. I polished it some with brasso but could use more.
